The Macau Football Association ( Pinyin: Àomén zúqiú zǒng huì; pt, Associação de Futebol de Macau) is the governing body of association football in Macau, China. History The Hong Kong–Macau Interport tournament, jointly organized by Hong Kong Football Association and Macau Football Association, has been played since 1937. Macau first entered 1980 AFC Asian Cup qualification, AFC Asian Cup qualification in 1980, winning their first international match against Philippines national football team, Philippines by 2-1 at Tokyo National Stadium. On 6 December 2018, Benfica de Macau President Duarte Alves accused the Macau Football Association of neglecting club football in favor of the Macau national football team. The 2013 AFC U-22 Championship (also known as the 2013 AFC U-22 Asian Cup) was the first edition of the AFC U-22 Championship. The hosting rights for the tournament was awarded to Oman. It was set to take place between 23 June and 7 July 2013 but was postponed to be held between 11 and 26 January 2014 due to the 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup. The football tournament at the 2009 East Asian Games was the fifth edition of East Asian Games football tournament. It was held in Hong Kong form 2 December 2009 to 13 December 2009. The tournament was won by Hong Kong, who claimed their first international football tournament title. They defeated Japan 4–2 in a penalty shootout in the final, after extra time had finished in a 1-1 draw. Korea Republic beat Korea DPR to finish third. The 2022 AFC U-23 Asian Cup was the 5th edition of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup (prior to 2021 known as the AFC U-23 Championship), a biennial international age-restricted football championship organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's under-23 national teams of Asia. The players had to be born on or after 1 January 1999. The tournament was originally going to be held in Uzbekistan from 6–24 January 2022, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and rescheduled to 1–19 June 2022. A total of 16 teams competed in the tournament. South Korea were the defending champions, but were eliminated by Japan in the quarter-finals, failing to finish among the top 4 for the first time. The 2020 AFC U-23 Championship was the fourth edition of the AFC U-23 Championship, the biennial international age-restricted football championship organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's under-23 national teams of Asia. A total of 16 teams competed in the tournament. It took place between 8–26 January 2020 in Thailand. The tournament acted as the AFC qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympics men's football tournament. The top three teams of the tournament would qualify for the Olympics in Japan as the AFC representatives. As Japan had already qualified as the hosts, had they reached the semi-finals, the other semi-finalists were guaranteed qualification even before the phase would have commenced.
