MacDonald Highlands
The MacDonald Highlands are a series of affluent residential neighborhoods in Henderson, Nevada in the foothills of Black Mountain. The neighborhood is part of the Las Vegas Valley. The highlands are situated approximately 15 miles (25 km) from the Las Vegas Strip and 20 miles (32 km) from downtown Las Vegas. It sits on the edges of the McCullough Mountains and overlooks much of Henderson and the Las Vegas Valley. It is one of the highest points of the Las Vegas area. Although guard-gated, and separated from other Henderson neighborhoods by the Dragonridge Country Club, it is bordered by the communities of Del Webb to the west, The Canyons to the southwest, McCullough Hills to the northeast and west, and Green Valley Ranch to the northwest. Black Mountain (Nevada)
Black Mountain is a landmark mountain south of the Las Vegas Valley. It is one of the more prominent of the mountains in the McCullough Range. Another mountain, adjacent to Interstate 515 in Henderson, is commonly called Black Mountain, including by the city of Henderson. It is actually an unnamed peak. Black Mountain is home to the transmission towers of many of the Las Vegas area's television and radio stations. Hiking and Day Use Several trails converge near Black Mountain within the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. These trails provide access to much of the conservation area with trail BLM 404 leading to the summit of Black Mountain. The trail is 6.8 miles, moderately trafficked out, and back trail rated as strenuous due to the last half mile including class two rock scrambling. McCullough Range
The mountains in the McCullough Range lie mostly above the city of Henderson in the U.S. state of Nevada. The range has two distinct areas with the northern portion being primarily volcanic in origin, while the southern part of the range is primarily composed of metamorphic rock. McCullough Range was named after a pioneer settler. Wilderness Areas Some of the northern part of the range is designated as the North McCullough Wilderness by the US Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management while some of the southern part of the range is similarly designated as the South McCullough Wilderness.
