Sint Maarten
Sint Maarten () is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean. With a population of 41,486 as of January 2019 on an area of , it encompasses the southern 44% of the divided island of Saint Martin, while the northern 56% of the island constitutes the French overseas collectivity of Saint Martin. Sint Maarten's capital is Philipsburg. Collectively, Sint Maarten and the other Dutch islands in the Caribbean are often called the Dutch Caribbean. Maarten Boudry
Maarten Boudry (born 15 August 1984) is a Dutch-speaking Belgian philosopher and skeptic. He has been a researcher and teaching member of the Department of Philosophy and Moral Sciences at Ghent University since 2006. To date, he has published over 30 articles in various philosophy of science journals. Academic background Boudry began his studies in philosophy at Ghent University in 2002, where he graduated cum laude in 2006. Between 2007 and 2011, he conducted research at Ghent University (Logic, History and Philosophy of Science), funded by a research grant from the Flemish foundation Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (FWO). After obtaining his PhD, he became a postdoctoral fellow at Ghent University, again with the financial support of the FWO. Maarten van Regteren Altena (born January 22, 1943) is a Dutch composer and contrabassist. Altena attended the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (he studied contrabass) and graduated in 1968. Between 1980 and 1985, he studied composition with Robert Heppener. Career Altena first recorded with Theo Loevendie, after which he had the opportunity to be part of Marion Brown's trio that recorded ''Porto Novo'' along with Han Bennink. After graduation, Altena played in a number of ensembles, such as various formations around Willem Breuker and Theo Loevendie. He also played in the Dutch Ballet Orchestra and other orchestras. In the mid-1970s he started performing solo, playing his own pieces, partly composed, partly improvised. Altena also founded his own ensemble, the ''Maarten Altena Kwartet'' (Maarten Altena Quartet) which expanded into the ''Maarten Altena Ensemble'' (MAE) in 1980. Maarten 't Hart (born 25 November 1944 in Maassluis) is a Dutch writer. Trained as a biologist in zoology and ethology at the Leiden University, he taught that subject before becoming a full-time writer in the 1980s, having made his debut as a novelist in 1971 under the name Martin Hart with ''Stenen voor een ransuil'' ("Stones for a Long-Eared Owl"). He is the author of many novels, including ''Het Woeden der Gehele Wereld'' and ''De kroongetuige''. His books have been translated into a number of European languages, and he is especially popular in Germany. Maarten de Bruijn (born 1965) is a Dutch engineer. Born in Naarden, he graduated in 1996 at University of Amsterdam with master's degree in City Planning. 1990-1996 he single-handed designed, constructed and made functional prototype Spyker Silvestris V8. 1999 he co-founded with Victor Muller company Spyker Cars for production of sport cars. Maarten Bouwknecht (born 14 December 1994) is a professional basketball player who plays for ZZ Leiden. Born in Groningen, he started his career with Donar in 2013. Standing at 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in), he usually plays as point guard or shooting guard. Maarten de Jonge (born 9 March 1985) is a Dutch former professional cyclist, who rode professionally for ten teams during his career. He claims to have attempted to fly on both Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, but changed flights in order to save money. It has never been independently confirmed that de Jonge ever booked tickets for either flight. According to Slate, de Jonge only mentioned he wanted to fly on the day MH17 crashed, but he never mentioned that he booked a ticket for that flight. Maarten Brzoskowski (born 19 September 1995) is a Dutch competitive swimmer of Polish origin who specializes in freestyle. He holds the Dutch records in both the long course and short course 400 meter freestyle events. His father's grandfather emigrated during World War I from Poland to the Netherlands. Career Brzoskowski participated in his first international championships at the 2014 European Aquatics Championships in Berlin, swimming the 400, 800, and 1500 meter freestyle events. Maarten Biesheuvel (23 May 1939 in Schiedam – 30 July 2020 in Leiden) was a Dutch writer of short stories and novellas. He made his literary debut in 1972 with the short story collection ''In de bovenkooi''. He received the "Ferdinand Bordewijk Prijs" in 1984 for ''Reis door mijn kamer''. In 2007 he received the P. C. Hooft Award. The Dutch was named after him and is awarded to the author of the best collection of short stories that has appeared in the Dutch language during the previous year. From 1990 Biesheuvel's literary production slowed significantly due to a writer's block and manic-depressive phases. He died in July 2020.
