MV Finlaggan
MV ''Finlaggan'' ( gd, Fionnlagan) is a drive-through vehicle and passenger ferry built in Poland for Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited. From 2011, she has been operated by Caledonian MacBrayne on the Islay service from Kennacraig. History MV ''Finlaggan'' was built in Gdańsk for the Kennacraig - Islay route. Launched on 30 June 2010, she arrived in Scotland in May 2011. During trials, she developed engine problems, forcing cancellation of the inaugural sailing. She had further problems with her bow doors, requiring withdrawal from service for overhaul of her hydraulic systems in Birkenhead. Layout ''Finlaggan'' is of Ro-Ro design with bow and stern ramps. Port Askaig
Port Askaig ( gd, Port Asgaig) is a port village on the east coast of the island of Islay, in Scotland. The village lies on the Sound of Islay (Caol Ìle) across from Jura. Economy Port Askaig has a hotel, a petrol station and shop next to the port but has very few households. In 2014, it was rated one of the most attractive postcode areas to live in Scotland. Whisky Port Askaig is also the name of a Scotch whisky range, bottled for Speciality Drinks Ltd. The producing distillery is not officially identified but the whiskies are marketed as Islay single malts. The distilleries Caol Ila, Ardnahoe and Bunnahabhain are all located to the north of the port. Finlaggan
Finlaggan (, gd, Port an Eilein) is a historic site on Eilean Mòr in Loch Finlaggan. The Loch, the island, and Finlaggan Castle lie on Islay, around to the northwest of Ballygrant. History Finlaggan was the seat of the Lords of the Isles and of Clan Donald. Two of the three islands that lie in the expansive scenery surrounding Loch Finlaggan, Eilean Mòr ("Great Isle") and Eilean na Comhairle ("Isle of the Council"), were the administrative centre of the Lordship of the Isles during the 13th to 15th centuries, until 1493 when the lordship of the Isles fell to James IV of Scotland, who administered the territory via a tenant-in-chief.
