MTV 90s is an international music television channel from Paramount International Networks that plays music videos from 1990 until 1999. MTV Global (formerly as MTV Europe) is the international version of the American TV channel MTV, a 24-hour music and entertainment TV channel that began broadcasting on August 1, 1987, as part of the worldwide MTV network. MTV Classic was a British pay television music channel from Paramount Networks UK & Australia. The channel was launched in the United Kingdom and Ireland on 1 July 1999 as VH1 Classic. MTV is an Italian pay television network, owned by Paramount Networks EMEAA and operated by Sky Italia. History Prior to the launch of a 24-hour Italian speaking MTV, MTV viewers in Italy received the pan-European version of MTV. Regionalization of MTV in Europe began in March 1997 with the launch of a German-speaking MTV, followed by a UK branded channel in July of the same year. The Italian channel officially launched in London in September 1997, when its transmissions also entered into the television programming of Rete A. Windowboxing (also called either the "postage stamp effect", "gutterboxing", "matchboxing", or "double letterboxing") in the display of film or video occurs when the aspect ratio of the media is such that the letterbox effect and pillarbox effect occur simultaneously. Sometimes, by accident or design, a standard ratio image is presented in the central portion of a letterbox picture (or vice versa), resulting in a black border all around. It is generally disliked because it wastes much screen space and reduces the resolution of the original image. It can occur when a 16:9 film is set to 4:3 (letterbox), but then shown on a 16:9 TV or other output device. It can also occur in the opposite direction (4:3 to 16:9 to 4:3). Now 90s was a British free-to-air music television channel, focusing exclusively on playing 1990s music for 10 months of the year (with their Christmas service not only playing hits from the 1990s). The channel originally launched on 23 November 2010 as WTF (Weekly Top Forty). It reached a million viewers in Sky alone each month. The channel was only allowed to have two ad-breaks an hour. MTV Base was a British pay television music channel from Paramount Networks UK & Australia that focused primarily on hip hop, R&B, grime, garage, reggae, funk, soul and dance music. It was launched as part of MTV's digital boutique of music channels on July 1, 1999 in both the United Kingdom and in Ireland. MTV Base closed on 31 March 2022, and was replaced by MTV 90s.
