MS Veendam
MS Veendam is a cruise ship formerly operated by Holland America Line. Originally named ''Veendam'' after the municipality of Veendam in the Netherlands, she had been in Holland America Line service since 1996. In 2020 the vessel was sold to Seajets, Greece and renamed ''Aegean Majesty''. Holland America Line ''Aegean Majesty'' was built as ''Veendam'', the fourth S class/Statendam class ship, ordered following the success of her three sister ships. Her keel was laid by Fincantieri as Hull Number 5954 in 1994. The ship was launched on 24 June 1995 and completed in May 1996. Actress Debbie Reynolds became the ship's godmother, and sailed on her maiden voyage on 15 May 1996. Veendam () is a town and municipality with a population of 27,752 in the province of Groningen in the northeast of the Netherlands. Veendam was established in 1648 as a peat colony by Adriaan Geerts Wildervanck. A Holland America Line cruise ship, the MS ''Veendam'', is named after the city. Freeport is a city, district and free trade zone on the island of Grand Bahama of the northwest Bahamas. In 1955, Wallace Groves, a Virginian financier with lumber interests in Grand Bahama, was granted of pineyard with substantial areas of swamp and scrubland by the Bahamian government with a mandate to economically develop the area. Freeport has grown to become the second most populous city in the Bahamas. Katakolo ( el, Κατάκολο) is a seaside town in the municipality of Pyrgos in western Elis, Greece. It is situated on a headland overlooking the Ionian Sea and separating the Gulf of Kyparissia from the rest of the Ionian. It is west of Pyrgos. The MS ''Renaissance'' is a cruise ship scheduled to re-enter service as the in February 2023. The ship was built in Italy in 1992 as ''Maasdam'' for Holland America Line. While sailing for Holland America, the vessel operated primarily in North American waters. In 2020 she was bought by Seajets and renamed ''Aegean Myth'', but did not trade. The ship was bought in 2022 by a new French operator, Compagnie Française de Croisières and sent for refit. Design and description As ''Maasdam'', the ship featured a teak promenade deck and her interior motifs paid homage to the Dutch East India Company and the Dutch West India Company.
