MOC-Floyd Valley Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Orange City, Iowa. Most of the district is in Sioux County with a portion in O'Brien County. It serves Orange City, Alton, Hospers, Granville, and Maurice. History The district formed on July 1, 1992, with the merger of the Maurice-Orange City and Floyd Valley districts. In 2020, the district proposed a bond to build a new, larger elementary school for $37 million. Each year, on average, until 2020 the elementary school enrollment increased by 18. It was scheduled for March 3, 2020. The measure was passed 63.46% to 36.54%; 60% was the required threshold. Orange City is a city in, and the county seat of, Sioux County, Iowa, United States. Its population was 6,267 in the 2020 census, an increase from 5,582 in 2000. Named after William of Orange, the community maintains its Dutch settler traditions visibly, with Dutch storefront architecture and an annual Tulip Festival. History and culture Orange City was first called Holland and was later renamed in honor of Dutch royalty, the Duke of Orange. The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Its female counterpart, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, (IGHSAU) is an associate member. Iowa is the only state that maintains separate governing bodies for boys' and girls' athletics. Sioux County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 35,872. Its county seat is Orange City. Its largest city is Sioux Center. History Sioux County was formed on January 15, 1851. It has been self-governed since January 20, 1860. It was named after the Sioux tribe. The first county seat was Calliope in 1860, then a small village with 15 inhabitants, and now part of Hawarden. The first courthouse was built here in 1860 and served as such until 1872. A larger immigration wave began in 1869, primarily of Dutch. In 1872, Orange City was declared the seat. In June 1902, the construction began on a new Sioux County courthouse designed by W.W. Beach. Of red sandstone, it was completed in 1904, and still serves as the courthouse.
