MNK Izola
Mladinski nogometni klub Izola ( en, Youth Izola Football Club), commonly referred to as MNK Izola or simply Izola, is a Slovenian football club from Izola which competes in the Slovenian Third League. Izola was established in 1996 after the dissolution of NK Izola, a club which folded following the 1995–96 Slovenian PrvaLiga season due to high financial debt. The Slovenian Third Football League ( sl, Tretja slovenska nogometna liga or commonly 3. SNL) is the third tier of the Football in Slovenia, Slovenian football system. Since 2019 the league consists of two regional groups (East and West). They are operated by the Intercommunal Football Associations. Format and rules Between 1992–93 and 1997–98, the Slovenian Third League was divided into two regional groups (East and West), with both group winners directly promoting to the Slovenian Second League (except in the 1994–95 season, when the top two divisions got reorganized). In the 1998–99 season, the league was expanded to four regional groups (Centre, East, North, West). Up to the 2002–03 season, all four group winners were promoted directly to the second division. Izola
Izola (; it, Isola ) is a town in southwestern Slovenia on the Adriatic Sea, Adriatic coast of the Slovenian Istria, Istrian peninsula. It is the seat of the Municipality of Izola. Its name originates from Italian language, Italian ''Isola'', which means 'island'. They played in the Slovenian top division for five consecutive seasons during the early 1990s. The club was dissolved after the 1995–96 Slovenian PrvaLiga season. History The club was founded in 1923 as ''Club Calcistico Giovanile Isola d'Istria'', when the city of Isola was part of Italy. It was known as ''Ampelea Isola d'Istria'' between 1930 and 1946, and played in Serie C between 1937 and 1946. Italian internationals Giuseppe Grezar, Alberto Eliani and Aredio Gimona played with Ampelea in the 1943–44 season. Due to the occupation of Istria and the Trieste territory by the Yugoslav Army, it was forced to change its name to the more proletarian sounding ''Unione Sportiva Isola'', and finally to ''NK Izola'' in 1951. The Slovenian Regional Leagues ( sl, Slovenske regionalne lige) are the fourth tier leagues in the Slovenian football system.
