Microphone
A microphone, colloquially called a mic or mike (), is a transducer that converts sound into an electrical signal. Microphones are used in many applications such as telephones, hearing aids, public address systems for concert halls and public events, motion picture production, live and recorded audio engineering, sound recording, two-way radios, megaphones, and radio and television broadcasting. They are also used in computers for recording voice, speech recognition, VoIP, and for other purposes such as ultrasonic sensors or knock sensors. Several types of microphone are used today, which employ different methods to convert the air pressure variations of a sound wave to an electrical signal. The most common are the dynamic microphone, which uses a coil of wire suspended in a magnetic field; the condenser microphone, which uses the vibrating diaphragm as a capacitor plate; and the contact microphone, which uses a crystal of piezoelectric material. Microphones typically n ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Metastable Intermolecular Composite
Nano-thermite or super-thermite is a metastable intermolecular composite (MIC) characterized by a particle size of its main constituents, a metal and a metal oxide, under 100 nanometers. This allows for high and customizable reaction rates. Nano-thermites contain an oxidizer and a reducing agent, which are intimately mixed on the nanometer scale. MICs, including nano-thermitic materials, are a type of reactive materials investigated for military use, as well as for general applications involving propellants, explosives, and pyrotechnics. What distinguishes MICs from traditional thermites is that the oxidizer and a reducing agent, normally iron oxide and aluminium, are in the form of extremely fine powders (nanoparticles). This dramatically increases the reactivity relative to micrometre-sized powder thermite. As the mass transport mechanisms that slow down the burning rates of traditional thermites are not so important at these scales, the reaction proceeds much more quickly. P ... Metal-induced Crystallization
Metal-induced crystallization (MIC) is a method by which amorphous carbon (a-C), amorphous silicon (a-Si), amorphous oxides and amorphous germanium (a-Ge) can be turned into their polycrystalline phases at relatively low temperatures. In the technologically important case of Si, a thin film of a-Si is deposited onto a substrate, usually glass, and then capped with a metal, such as aluminium (Aluminum-induced crystallization(AIC)). The structure is then annealed at temperatures between 150 °C and 400 °C which causes the a-Si films to be transformed into polycrystalline silicon. In a variant of this method, called Metal-induced lateral crystallization (MILC), metal is only deposited on some area of the a-Si. Upon annealing, crystallization starts from the portion of a-Si which is covered by metal and proceeds laterally. Unlike MIC process, where metal contamination in the obtained polysilicon is relatively high, the laterally crystallized silicon in MILC process contai ... Medical Image Computing
Medical image computing (MIC) is an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of computer science, information engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics and medicine. This field develops computational and mathematical methods for solving problems pertaining to medical images and their use for biomedical research and clinical care. The main goal of MIC is to extract clinically relevant information or knowledge from medical images. While closely related to the field of medical imaging, MIC focuses on the computational analysis of the images, not their acquisition. The methods can be grouped into several broad categories: image segmentation, image registration, image-based physiological modeling, and others. Data forms Medical image computing typically operates on uniformly sampled data with regular x-y-z spatial spacing (images in 2D and volumes in 3D, generically referred to as images). At each sample point, data is commonly represented in integral form such as ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Maximal Information Coefficient
In statistics, the maximal information coefficient (MIC) is a measure of the strength of the linear or non-linear association between two variables ''X'' and ''Y''. The MIC belongs to the maximal information-based nonparametric exploration (MINE) class of statistics. In a simulation study, MIC outperformed some selected low power tests, however concerns have been raised regarding reduced statistical power in detecting some associations in settings with low sample size when compared to powerful methods such as distance correlation and Heller–Heller–Gorfine (HHG). Comparisons with these methods, in which MIC was outperformed, were made in Simon and Tibshirani and in Gorfine, Heller, and Heller. It is claimed that MIC approximately satisfies a property called ''equitability'' which is illustrated by selected simulation studies. It was later proved that no non-trivial coefficient can exactly satisfy the ''equitability'' property as defined by Reshef et al., although this resu ... Major Immunogene Complex
The Major immunogene complex (MIC) is a gene sequence containing loci coding for antigens on lymphocyte surface (Ia) histocompatibility (H) antigens, products of immune responses, and components system proteins. The genes that code for immunoglobulins are assorted independently of the MIC, but the plasma cells which produce immunoglobulins are under the control of products of the MIC. See also *Major histocompatibility complex *Immune system The immune system is a network of biological processes that protects an organism from diseases. It detects and responds to a wide variety of pathogens, from viruses to parasitic worms, as well as cancer cells and objects such as wood splinte ... References {{reflist Immunology ... Multan Institute Of Cardiology
Multan Institute of Cardiology (MIC), is a hospital located in Multan city in Pakistan. It was established by Nawaz Sharif, the former chief minister of Punjab (Pakistan), Punjab province, in 2016. History A project for the establishment of a specialised, tertiary care centre for patients with cardiovascular diseases, was subject to a range of issues. Despite millions hoping for this project to be initiated, the convoluted bureaucracy consequently delayed it, denying millions, access to specialised healthcare. In early 2003, Pervaiz Elahi, the Chief Minister of Punjab, prioritised this initiative, evident by his appointment of Col. (Ret) Prof M A Cheema as the Project Director of MIC. He has been a pioneer in cardiac surgery within Pakistan and had previously established the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, in Lahore. The centre initiated its outpatient services in 2005, while inpatient services commenced in 2005. The first open heart surgery was performed on 29 October 2007 an ...
