MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2017
The MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2017 is an event of the World Surf League for the 2017 World Surf League Men's Championship Tour. Peniche will receive for the ninth consecutive time the race of the world championship of surfing, which is the 10th of 11 stages of WSL in 2017. The event will be held from 20 to 31 October in the Supertubos beach at Peniche, (Leiria, Portugal) finishing earlier in 25 October with the victory of Gabriel Medina over Julian Wilson. This was Medina's first title in Portugal after a second place back in 2012. Supertubos
Supertubos (Portuguese for ''Supertubes'') is a wave and beach located in Peniche, Portugal. The break is the site of the MEO Pro Portugal from the World Surf League Men's and Women's Championship Tour event. The wave did not come into mainstream international spotlight until the Rip Curl Pro Search Event in 2009. It has been qualified as having 'Totally Epic' quality as a wave. Major surfing competitions The beach hosts every year the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, a professional surfing competition, from the World Surf League Men's and Women's Championship Tour. On the tour calendar, this is one out of two European competitions and the tenth out of eleven competitions overall. Rip Curl Pro Portugal
MEO Pro Portugal formerly known as ''MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal'', ''Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal'' or ''Rip Curl Pro Portugal'' is a professional surfing competition of the WSL World Tour held every year in October at the Supertubos beach in Peniche, Portugal. The event was first founded in 2009 as ''Rip Curl Search Portugal''. Mick Fanning
Michael Eugene Fanning (born 13 June 1981) is an Australian professional surfer who was crowned champion of the Association of Surfing Professionals/World Surf League (ASP/WSL)'s World Tour in 2007, 2009 and 2013. Kolohe Andino
Kolohe Andino (born March 22, 1994, in San Clemente, California) is an American surfer. Andino began surfing at a young age and holds the record for winning the most National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) titles of any male competitor, becoming the youngest to win one at age 15 in 2009. His breakthrough happened in 2011 after he won the Vans Pier Classic and the ASP 6-Star Quiksilver Brazil Open of Surfing. Joel Parkinson
Joel Parkinson (born 10 April 1981) is an Australian surfer who used to compete on the WSL (World Surf League). After twelve years competing at the elite level on the ASP World Championship Tour, a stretch that saw him win eleven elite ASP World Title Events, plus nine additional ASP tour events, and achieve runner-up second place to the ASP World Title four times, Parkinson won the ASP World Championship Tour Surfing Title on 14 December 2012 in Hawaii at the Banzai Pipeline during the ASP World Tours' final event for 2012–the Billabong Pipeline Masters. Filipe Toledo
Filipe Toledo (born April 16, 1995) is a Brazilian professional surfer who has competed on the World Surf League Men's World Tour since 2013. He’s a second-generation pro who grew up outside of Ubatuba, Brasil on the northeastern coast of the state of São Paulo. His father, and long-time coach, Ricardo, was a two-time national champion. In 2014, as his career took flight, Filipe convinced his entire family to move to San Clemente, California. Michel Bourez
Michel Bourez (born 30 December 1985) is a French professional surfer. Biography Bourez was born on the island of Rurutu in the Tuamotus Islands in French Polynesia and started surfing at age 13. European champion in 2006, Michel entered the ASP World Tour in 2009. His best results on the World Tour came in 2014, with a fifth place in the overall classification, having won twice during the year; at Margaret River Pro 2014 and Rio de Janeiro and third place in Fiji Pro. His 2015 season was hampered by a severe injury in May, when doing a free surf session at Teahupoo. A fractured hand and cervical vertebra forced him out of the Rio and Fiji events. Jérémy Florès
Jérémy Florès (born 27 April 1988 on Reunion Island) is a French surfer who grew up on Reunion Island, France, where he began surfing at the age of 3. He continued his surfing development on family trips to Australia, Europe and Hawaii, all the while maintaining his education through correspondence courses. He turned professional in 2007, the same year in which he was awarded 'Rookie of the Year' by the WSL, and has won the prestigious Billabong Pipeline Masters in Hawaii both in 2010 and 2017. In 2015, Jeremy also beat reigning champion Gabriel Medina in the prestigious Billabong Pro Teahupoo, Tahiti with a 16.57 total heat score.
