Jérémy Florès
Jérémy Florès (born 27 April 1988 on Reunion Island) is a French surfer who grew up on Reunion Island, France, where he began surfing at the age of 3. He continued his surfing development on family trips to Australia, Europe and Hawaii, all the while maintaining his education through correspondence courses. He turned professional in 2007, the same year in which he was awarded 'Rookie of the Year' by the WSL, and has won the prestigious Billabong Pipeline Masters in Hawaii both in 2010 and 2017. In 2015, Jeremy also beat reigning champion Gabriel Medina in the prestigious Billabong Pro Teahupoo, Tahiti with a 16.57 total heat score. From 2012-2015 Reunion Island has had a much larger than normal problem with sharks attacking surfers and bodyboarders along its beaches. As a local surfing legend, Jeremy is often asked his opinion. The Billabong Pipe Masters, is an annual event of the Association of Surfing Professionals for 2017 World Surf League, it is the final event of the Triple Crown of Surfing. This event was held from 8 to 20 December at Banzai Pipeline, Oahu ( Hawaii, United States) and consisted of the world's best surfers competing for Champion of the renowned Banzai pipeline. ASP World Tour
The World Surf League (WSL) is the governing body for professional surfers and is dedicated to showcasing the world's best talent in a variety of progressive formats. The World Surf League was originally known as the International Professional Surfing founded by Fred Hemmings and Randy Rarick in 1976. IPS created the first world circuit of pro surfing events. In 1983 the Association of Surfing Pros took over management of the world circuit. In 2013, the ASP was acquired by ZoSea, backed by Paul Speaker, Terry Hardy, and Dirk Ziff. Teahupo'o
Teahupoo () is a village on the southwestern coast of the island of Tahiti, French Polynesia, in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is known for the surf break and heavy, glassy waves offshore, often reaching , and sometimes up to . It is the site of the annual Billabong Pro Tahiti surf competition, part of the World Championship Tour (WCT) of the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour surfing circuit, and used to be one stop in the World Tour of the International Bodyboarding Association. Tahitian Thierry Vernaudon and a few other locals surfed Teahupo’o for the very first time in 1985. The 2015 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) was the first year of the World Surf League, which grew out of the Association of Surfing Professionals. Men and women competed in separate tours with events taking place from late February to mid-December, at various surfing locations around the world. The surfer with the most points at the end of the tour (after discarding their two worst results) was named the 2015 ASP Surfing World Champion. Adriano de Souza of Brazil won the men's world title with 57,000 points.
