MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2016
The MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2016 was an event of the World Surf League for 2016 World Surf League Men's Championship Tour. This event was held from 18 to 29 October in the Supertubos beach at Peniche, (Leiria, Portugal), with 36 surfers competing. Due to the lack of conditions, the organization explored some good surfing spots in the peninsula to end the event in the correct date and some stages of the event were also held at Point Fabril beach between Almagreira and Pico da Mota in Ferrel(pt). Soon as the good waves came back to Supertubos the organization switched again of place. The tournament was won by John John Florence John "John John" Alexander Florence (born October 18, 1992) is an American professional surfer. Supertubos
Supertubos (Portuguese for ''Supertubes'') is a wave and beach located in Peniche, Portugal. The break is the site of the MEO Pro Portugal from the World Surf League Men's and Women's Championship Tour event. The wave did not come into mainstream international spotlight until the Rip Curl Pro Search Event in 2009. It has been qualified as having 'Totally Epic' quality as a wave. Major surfing competitions The beach hosts every year the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, a professional surfing competition, from the World Surf League Men's and Women's Championship Tour. On the tour calendar, this is one out of two European competitions and the tenth out of eleven competitions overall. At national level, the beach hosts every year the "Bom Petisco Peniche Pro" from the Liga MEO Surf Men's and Women's Championship Tour, the last competition of the national championship calendar. Rip Curl Pro Portugal
MEO Pro Portugal formerly known as ''MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal'', ''Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal'' or ''Rip Curl Pro Portugal'' is a professional surfing competition of the WSL World Tour held every year in October at the Supertubos beach in Peniche, Portugal. The event was first founded in 2009 as ''Rip Curl Search Portugal''. The defending men's champion is the Brazilian surfer Italo Ferreira who won the event both in 2018 and 2019, being the first back-to-back winner ever on the event. The defending women's champion is the American surfer Caroline Marks, the youngest winner ever on the event. Jordy Smith
Jordan Michael "Jordy" Smith (born 11 February 1988) is a South African professional surfer, competing on the World championship tour surfing (WCT). In 2007 Smith won surfing's World Qualifying Series, the second-tier tour which leads to qualification for the World championship tour (WCT) surfing. Jordy Smith won both the 2010 and 2011 Billabong J-Bay competitions in South Africa. He has also won 2014 and 2016 Hurley Pro at trestles California . In 2013 he won the Rio Pro in Brazil. All of these contests are part of the world championship tour. Smith grew up in Durban and started surfing at age 3. He attended a local Durban high school, Glenwood High School. Julian Wilson (surfer)
Julian Wilson (born 8 November 1988) is an Australian professional surfer who competes on the World Surf League Men's World Tour. Personal life Wilson was born and raised in Coolum Beach, Queensland. He is an ambassador for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Wilson's mother is a breast cancer survivor, and he was inspired to ride a pink board by a close family friend and international cricketer, Matthew Hayden, who plays with a pink bat for the corresponding cause. Wilson was in the water during the final of the J-Bay Open 2015 in South Africa when three-time world champion Mick Fanning was attacked by a great white shark. Kolohe Andino
Kolohe Andino (born March 22, 1994, in San Clemente, California) is an American surfer. Andino began surfing at a young age and holds the record for winning the most National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) titles of any male competitor, becoming the youngest to win one at age 15 in 2009. His breakthrough happened in 2011 after he won the Vans Pier Classic and the ASP 6-Star Quiksilver Brazil Open of Surfing. In 2019, Andino qualified to represent the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics in surfing. His name, Kolohe, means "little rascal" in Hawaiian. Peniche () is a seaside municipality and a city located in the Leiria District of Central Portugal. It has 26,431 inhabitants, in an area of 77.55 km2.
