The M37, named Moss Kolnik Drive is a metropolitan route in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, South Africa connecting Amanzimtoti with Adams Mission via KwaMakhutha, south of Durban. Route The M37 begins at an intersection with the R102 (Andrew Zondo Road), north of Amanzimtoti. It begins by heading west-south-westwards as Moss Kolnik Drive, and flies over the N2 freeway. It continues to pass south of Galleria Mall and the Umbogintwini industrial complex before turning southwards and westwards to exit Amanzimtoti and enter the township of KwaMakhutha. eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality is a metropolitan municipality created in 2000, that includes the city of Durban, South Africa and surrounding towns. eThekwini is one of the 11 districts of KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Amanzimtoti
Amanzimtoti is a coastal town just south of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The town is well known for its warm climate and numerous beaches, and is a popular tourist destination, particularly with surfers. The annual sardine run attracts many to the Toti beaches. Etymology According to local legend, when the Zulu king Shaka led his army down the south coast on a raid against the Pondos in 1828, he rested on the banks of a river. When drinking the water, he exclaimed "Kanti amanzi amtoti" (isiZulu: "So the water is sweet"). The river came to be known as Amanzimtoti ("Sweet Waters"). The Zulu word for "sweet" is actually ''mnandi'', but, as Shaka's mother had the name Nandi, he invented the word ''mtoti'' to replace ''mnandi'' out of respect not to wear out her name. Adams Mission
Adams Mission is a town in eThekwini in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. The settlement is situated west of KwaMakhutha and Amanzimtoti and south of Durban. History Established in 1836 as a Medical mission, the settlement was destroyed by the Zulu king Dingaan, but rebuilt in 1839. Named after the American missionary Dr Newton Adams who arrived in Natal in 1835 and who played a prominent role in respect to this mission. The mission was operated by Dr. B.N. Bridgman until 1898, in Amanzimtoti, South Africa. Dr. James Bennett McCord took over leadership of the mission in 1899 and then 1902. The mission was noted to be far from the population of Durban by McCord. The mission also built and operated Adams College. KwaMakhutha is a township in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, located south-west of Durban and means "at the Makhutha location". Geography KwaMakhutha is situated approximately 29 km south-west of Durban and forms part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality which is Durban's greater metropolitan area. The R102 is a Regional Route in South Africa. It is the route designation for all old sections of the N2, thus it is a discontinuous road that resumes in areas where a new N2 has been constructed. Route Western Cape and Eastern Cape In the Cape Town area, the R102 starts in the Central Business District and runs through Woodstock, Maitland, Goodwood and Parow before it reaches Bellville. From Bellville, it turns in a southeasterly direction and goes on the outskirts of the city through Kuils River, Eerste River and onwards to Somerset West where it merges with the existing N2. At Mossel Bay it divides to the east again, passing through all the towns between there and George. Umbogintwini (a corruption of ''eZimbokodweni'') is a suburb located approximately 23 km south-west of Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. History In the early 1900s, Mr Arthur Chamberlain (uncle of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain) saw an opportunity to supply explosives to the gold mines in South Africa at a cheaper rate than he could supply from the Kynochs factory in Arklow, Ireland. In 1907, the Natal Colony (prior to the Union of South Africa in 1910) granted Kynochs Ltd a lease on 1,400 acres (566 hectares) of land south of the uMbokodweni River which was originally part of a reserve. Mr Warner, a land surveyor from Brisbane in Australia was contracted to lay out the factory and village of Umbogintwini.
