Mahakavi "M. P." Appan (29 March 1913 – 10 December 2003)Mathrubhumi Daily Page1 dtd 10.12.2003 Obituary News of MP Appan was a poet and littérateur of Malayalam. He was born on 1913 near Jagathi of Trivandrum district. His parents were Madu and Kochappi. His original name was ''Ponnappan''. He began his career as a school teacher after completing BA honours from the Kerala University College, Trivandrum. He had his imprint in the literary field for over 70 years. He was also a member of the Kerala Sahitya Academy from 1957 to 1967. He had published 40-odd poetry collections. Some of his famous works include ''Vellinakshathram'' and ''Suvarnodayam''. Narayana Guru, , (20 August 1856 Р20 September 1928) was a philosopher, spiritual leader and social reformer in India. He led a reform movement against the injustice in the caste-ridden society of Kerala in order to promote spiritual enlightenment and social equality. Biography Narayanan, n̩ Nanu, was born on 20 August 1856 to Madan Asan and Kuttiyamma in an Ezhava family, in the village of Chempazhanthy near Thiruvananthapuram, in the erstwhile state of Travancore. His early education was in the gurukula way under Chempazhanthi Mootha Pillai during which time his mother died when he was 15. At the age of 21, he went to central Travancore to learn from Raman Pillai Asan, a Sanskrit scholar who taught him Vedas, Upanishads and the literature and logical rhetoric of Sanskrit. The Malayali people () (also spelt Malayalee and also known by the demonym Keralite) are a Dravidian ethnolinguistic group originating from the present-day state of Kerala in India, occupying its southwestern Malabar coast. They are predominantly native speakers of the Malayalam language, one of the six Classical languages in India. The state of Kerala was created in 1956 through the States Reorganisation Act.
