M. Joseph Conroy
Michael Joseph Conroy (September 20, 1874September 5, 1946) was the second Mayor of Anchorage, Alaska, serving from 1923 to 1924. Biography Conroy was born in the village of Ballyconneely, County Galway, Ireland, on September 20, 1874. His family emigrated to the United States in 1880, settling in Manchester, New Hampshire. He worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad until 1904. In 1905, he moved to Seward, Alaska to work on the Alaska Central Railroad. He lived for a time in Cordova, Knik and Valdez, where in 1913 he was admitted to the Alaska Bar Association. He served as United States Commissioner in the Seward-Kenai precinct until 1916. During this time he met and married Nellie Rushton Muscott, a nurse from Simpson, Kansas who was working in Seward for Dr. Joseph H. Romig. Ballyconneely () is a village and small ribbon development in west Connemara, County Galway Ireland. Name 19th century antiquarian John O'Donovan documents a number of variants of the village, including Ballyconneely, Baile 'ic Conghaile, Ballykineely, Ballycunneely, and Balyconneely. An Post Placenames Branch archival notes Baile Uí Chonghaile, Baile 'ic Confhaola and other various spellings. The surname, Conneely is ''Mac Conghaile'' originally (Ó Conghaile contemporaneously), whereas ''Ó Conghaola'' (modern spelling ''Ó Conaola'' - Conneally) is an entirely unrelated sept located in southern County Galway belonging to the Uí bhFhiachrach Aidne. Leopold David
Leopold David (1878 – November 21, 1924) was the first mayor of Anchorage, Alaska. He studied the law in his own time and was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association before moving in 1917 to what would become Anchorage, Alaska. He served two terms as major of Anchorage and was a practicing attorney before joining the Board of Regents of the University of Alaska. Biography Leopold David was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1878 (or Nordhausen, Germany in 1881). He served in the Philippines in the Spanish–American War, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. In 1904, he was assigned to Fort Egbert on the Yukon River near Eagle, Alaska, where he worked as a pharmacist's assistant. Discharged in 1905, he moved to Seward, obtaining a position as manager of the Seward Drug Company. Local newspapers ads described him as a "Physician and Surgeon". Charles W. Bush (October 17, 1881 – August 4, 1955) was the third mayor of Anchorage, Alaska. Biography Charles William Bush was born in Germany and immigrated with his family to the United States while he was still an infant. He came of age in Portland, Oregon where he worked as a clothing salesman. In 1905, he moved to Valdez, Alaska, where he operated a tobacco store with his sister, Emma. In 1915, he moved to the not-yet-incorporated city of Anchorage. It was about this time that a boy, Edward, was born to Charles and his wife, Dora. Mount McKinley

Sydney Laurence
Sydney Mortimer Laurence (1865–1940) was an American Romantic landscape painter and is widely considered one of Alaska's most important historical artists. Early life Sydney Mortimer Laurence was born in Brooklyn, New York and studied at the Art Students League of New York. He married Alexandrina Fredricka Dupre in 1889. He exhibited regularly by the late 1880s. He and his wife traveled to England, settling in 1889 in the English artists' colony of St. Ives, Cornwall from 1889 to 1898. over the next decade he exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists and was included in the Paris Salon in 1890, 1894, and 1895, winning an award in 1894. Herbert Hoover
Herbert Clark Hoover (August 10, 1874 – October 20, 1964) was an American politician who served as the 31st president of the United States from 1929 to 1933 and a member of the Republican Party, holding office during the onset of the Great Depression in the United States.
