M. A. Malek (mayor)
Abdul Malek is a Jatiya Party (Ershad) politician and the former member of parliament for Manikganj-3. He was a former colonel of the Bangladesh Army and a former mayor of Dhaka. Career Malek was elected to parliament from Manikganj-3 as a Jatiya Party candidate in 1986 and 1988. From 20 October 1986 to 9 November 1989, he served as the mayor/administer of Dhaka City Corporation. He was appointed to the position by President Hussain Mohammad Ershad. Manikganj-3
Manikganj-3 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2008 by Zahid Maleque of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Saturia Upazila and all but the three southernmost union parishads of Manikganj Sadar Upazila: Bhararia, Hati Para, and Putail. History The constituency was created in 1984 from the Dhaka-3 constituency when the former Dhaka District was split into six districts: Manikganj District, Manikganj, Munshiganj District, Munshiganj, Dhaka District, Dhaka, Gazipur District, Gazipur, Narsingdi District, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj District, Narayanganj. Jatiya Party (Ershad)
The Jatiya Party ( bn, জাতীয় পার্টি, translit=Jatiyo Party, lit=National Party) is a conservative, nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad, against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammad Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However, the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently, it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations. Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) was the former self-governing corporation that was entrusted with the task of administering the municipal affairs of Dhaka. The incorporated area was divided into several wards. Each ward has an elected ward commissioner. The mayor of the city was elected by popular vote every five years, although the last mayoral election took place in 2002. Hussain Mohammad Ershad
Lt. Gen. Hussain Muhammad Ershad ( bn, হুসেইন মুহাম্মদ এরশাদ; 1 February 1930 – 14 July 2019) was a Bangladeshi Army Chief politician who served as the President of Bangladesh from 1983 to 1990, a time many consider to have been a military dictatorship. He seized power as head of the army during a bloodless coup against President Abdus Sattar on 24 March 1982 (by imposing martial law and suspending the Constitution). He declared himself President in 1983, and subsequently won the controversial 1986 Bangladeshi presidential election. Despite claims to have legitimately won the 1986 election, many consider his regime as an era of military dictatorship. Zahid Maleque (born 11 April 1959) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the incumbent Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Bangladesh), Minister of Health and Family Welfare.
