Manikganj-3 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2008 by Zahid Maleque of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Saturia Upazila and all but the three southernmost union parishads of Manikganj Sadar Upazila: Bhararia, Hati Para, and Putail. History The constituency was created in 1984 from the Dhaka-3 constituency when the former Dhaka District was split into six districts: Manikganj District, Manikganj, Munshiganj District, Munshiganj, Dhaka District, Dhaka, Gazipur District, Gazipur, Narsingdi District, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj District, Narayanganj. Ahead of the 2008 Bangladeshi general election, 2008 general election, the Bangladesh Election Commission, Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census. Zahid Maleque
Zahid Maleque (born 11 April 1959) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the incumbent Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Bangladesh), Minister of Health and Family Welfare. He is the incumbent Jatiya Sangsad member from the Manikganj-3 constituency. In 2016, Maleque received WHO award on behalf of the health ministry for reducing child mortality. Abdul Malek (Manikganj Politician)
Abdul Malek is a Jatiya Party (Ershad) politician and the former member of parliament for Manikganj-3. He was a former colonel of the Bangladesh Army and a former mayor of Dhaka. Career Malek was elected to parliament from Manikganj-3 as a Jatiya Party candidate in 1986 and 1988. Harunur Rashid Khan Monno (17 August 1932 – 1 August 2017) was a Bangladeshi industrialist and politician. He served as the Chairman of his conglomerate, Monno Group of Industries. He was elected a member of parliament and a minister (without portfolio) of the Government of Bangladesh. He was also an adviser to Bangladesh National Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia. The Jatiya Sangsad ( bn, জাতীয় সংসদ, lit=National Parliament, translit=Jatiyô Sôngsôd), often referred to simply as the ''Sangsad'' or JS and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. 2014 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 5 January 2014, in accordance with the constitutional requirement that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the term of the Jatiya Sangshad on 24 January 2014. The elections were not free and fair. They were preceded by a government crackdown on the opposition, with Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Opposition leader Khaleda Zia was put under house arrest.
