Léon Bekaert
Léon Antoine Bekaert (Zwevegem, 9 December 1891 - Zwevegem, 19 December 1961) was a Belgian industrialist and politician. He was the son of Leo Leander Bekaert, who founded the family business in 1880. He expanded the family venture ''Tréfileries Léon Bekaert'' (1935), at Zwevegem (production of steel wire) into Bekaert, a global company. He was President of the League of Christian Employers (1934–1961) and President of the Belgian league of the metallurgical industry ( Fabrimetal) from 1946 up to 1952, after which he accepted the chairmanship of the Federation of Belgian Enterprises. From 1926 until his death, he was burgomaster of Zwevegem and of 1938 up to beginning 1961 he was regent of the National Bank of Belgium. Zwevegem
Zwevegem () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Heestert, Moen, Otegem, Sint-Denijs and Zwevegem. On January 1, 2019, Zwevegem had a total population of 24,648. The total area is 63.24 km2 which gives a population density of 380 inhabitants per km2. The Bekaert company was founded in Zwevegem by Baron Leon Leander Bekaert. Heestert Military Cemetery holds the graves of 127 Britons and 57 Germans, most of whom died on 21–25 October 1918 in the area during the First World War. UNIAPAC
The International Christian Union of Business Executives or UNIAPAC is an ecumenical organization for Christian businesspeople. History The predecessors of the organization were national federations of Catholic employers in The Netherlands in 1915, Belgium in 1921 and France in 1926. In 1931, a group of Catholic employers created an ''International Comité d'Initiative'' at the 40th anniversary of the encyclical ''Rerum novarum'' in Rome. Leon Bekaert
Leon baron Bekaert (born 1958) is a Belgian businessman. He started his career in 1983 as Managing Partner of Pauli Philippines (Manila) and in 1984 transferred in 1984 to P.T. LVD Indonesia as managing director. In 1987 he joined the Bekaert Group as Sales Manager Bekaert Hong Kong and in 1989 he was appointed as Strategic Project Manager and in 1991 Product Manager Fencing Products. Leon Bekaert left the Beakert Group in 1994 and became a member of the Board. He holds a degree in Applied Economics from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (1983) and obtained an MBA at the IMI in Geneva in 1987.
