Gavin Lyall
Gavin Tudor Lyall (9 May 1932 – 18 January 2003) was an English author of espionage thrillers. Biography Lyall was born in Birmingham, then in Warwickshire (now West Midlands), England, as the son of a local accountant, and educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham. After completing his two years of National Service, 1951 to 1953, as a Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force flying Gloster Meteors, he went to Pembroke College, Cambridge, graduating in 1956 with honours in English. While at Cambridge he wrote regularly for the undergraduate newspaper Varsity and also created a strip cartoon whose hero, "Olly", reflected student life and became a cult figure. He became editor of Varsity in 1956. Paul Lyall
Paul Lyall (1944 – 24 December 2021) was a British para table tennis player who competed at three Paralympic Games winning a total of six medals including three gold medals. He was known as one of the British legends of the early years of the Paralympics. Personal life Lyall was born in Writtle, Chelmsford in 1944 and he spent most of his childhood living with his mother and grandparents in East Anglia, he had a strong interest in gardening and nature at a young age while working at his grandparents' farm. He left school at fifteen years old and joined up to an apprenticeship to qualify as a plumber. In 1960, he was involved in a motorbike accident which left him paralysed and became a wheelchair user from then on. Laura Muntz Lyall (June 18, 1860 – December 9, 1930) was a Canadian Impressionist painter, known for her sympathetic portrayal of women and children. Life and work Laura Adeline Muntz was born at Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England in 1860, but her family emigrated to Canada when she was a child. She grew up on a farm in the Muskoka District of Ontario. As a young woman, Muntz's interest in art led to her take lessons in painting from William Charles Forster of Hamilton and to live and work at his school. Starting in 1882, she began to take classes at the Ontario School of Art in Toronto where she studied with Lucius Richard O'Brien, and later with George Agnew Reid. She studied briefly at the South Kensington School of Art in 1887, then returned to Canada to continue her studies with Reid. John Edwardes Lyall (1811 – 6 December 1845) was a British lawyer who was Advocate-General of Bengal. He was born the eldest son of George Lyall, Member of Parliament for the City of London and was educated at Eton College. His brother was George Lyall, the MP for Whitehaven. He entered Haileybury College to prepare for the service in the East India Company but instead left Haileybury to go Balliol College, Oxford. Whilst at Oxford he was President of the Oxford Union for Trinity term, 1831. Sir James Broadwood Lyall (4 March 1838 – 4 December 1916) was a British administrator in the Imperial Civil Service who served as Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab between 1887 and 1892.
