Luuka Jones
Luuka Jones (born 18 October 1988) is a New Zealand slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. Early life Jones was born in Tauranga in 1988. Her mother Denise Jones was a fan of the British actress Audrey Hepburn and Luuka Jones was named after Hepburn's second son, Luca Dotti. Her father is Rod Jones and she has three sisters. She was brought up adjacent to the Wairoa River. She took up kayaking at age ten and received lessons from Waimarino Adventure Park nearby. She went to Otumoetai Intermediate where in Year Seven, she set her goal to win an Olympic medal. Canoeing career Jones started competing in 2003 at age 14. In preparation for the 2008 Summer Olympics, she moved to England to train with the British team. She was the first female canoe slalom paddler to represent New Zealand at the Olympic Games. Canoeing At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's Slalom K-1
The women's K-1 canoe slalom competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London took place between 30 July and 2 August at the Lee Valley White Water Centre. The gold medal was won by Émilie Fer from France. Competition format In the heats, each competitor had two runs; the 15 athletes with the best time qualified for the semi-finals. Each semi-final consisted of one run each and the best 10 qualified for the final. The final was also one run where the canoeist with the best time won the gold medal. Segre Olympic Park
Parc Olímpic del Segre is a canoeing and kayaking facility in La Seu d'Urgell, Catalonia, Spain, built in 1990 for use during the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. The competition whitewater course is 300 m long, with a 6.5 m drop, making a 2.2% slope of 114 ft/mile or 22 m/km. The natural flow of the Segre River is diverted through the course by a diversion dam upstream. In low flow conditions, four 300-kilowatt recirculation pumps can add up to 12 m3/s to the course flow, in order to increase it to the course maximum of 17.5 m3/s. When the course is not being used, or when the natural flow exceeds 17.5 m3/s, the pumps are reversed and run in turbine mode to generate electricity for the town. Čunovo Water Sports Centre
The Čunovo Water Sports Centre is an artificial whitewater slalom course in Slovakia, on an island in the Danube river, 14 km southeast of Bratislava, near the village of Čunovo. It is powered by flow diversion from the Čunovo dam. Since 1997, it has hosted a full schedule of local, regional, and international competitions, including multiple World Cup races, 2 European Championships and the 2011 World Championships. Mangahao River
The Mangahao River is located in the North Island of New Zealand. The headwaters are in the Tararua Ranges. The river flows northeast feeds into the Manawatu River south of Woodville. There are two dams on the river which tunnel water, via a third reservoir on the Tokomaru River, to the Mangahao Power Station located on the Mangaore Stream near Shannon. Geology Within the last 10,000 years the upper of the river has been captured at Kakariki from the Hukanui Stream, which feeds the Mangatainoka River. The 2009 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of five races in 4 canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 22nd edition. The series consisted of 2 continental championships (Oceania and Pan American) which were open to all countries and 3 world cup races. The athletes gained points for their results in the three world cup races plus their best result from any of the two continental championships. Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Slalom C-1
The women's C-1 slalom canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 28 and 29 July 2021 at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Course. 22 canoeists from 22 nations competed. The event was won by Jessica Fox from Australia, who already had three medals (one silver and two bronzes) in K-1 slalom from the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympics. Briton Mallory Franklin won silver, and German Andrea Herzog bronze. For both of them it was the first Olympic medal. Background This was the debut appearance of the event, replacing the men's C-2.
