Lucas Terrier
The Lucas Terrier is a small breed of dog of the terrier type which originated in England in the late 1940s. The breed was created by Sir Jocelyn Lucas at his Ilmer Kennels in Watford, Hertfordshire. All living authentic examples can trace their ancestry back to a small number of his original Ilmer Sealyham dogs, and resulting Lucas Terrier progeny. History Sir Jocelyn Lucas, 4th Baronet, a well-known huntsman and Sealyham Terrier breeder in the first half of the 20th century, was disappointed with the direction the Sealyham was headed since its appearance in conformation shows, especially large heads and heavy shoulders. At his Ilmer kennels in Hertfordshire, he decided to cross one of his own Sealyhams, considerably smaller than the mainstream Sealyham bitches found in show rings at the time, with Norfolk Terrier dogs. Dog Type
Dog types are broad categories of domestic dogs based on form, function, or style of work, lineage, or appearance. Some may be locally adapted dog types (or ''landraces'') that may have the visual characteristics of a modern purebred dog. In contrast, modern ''dog breeds'' strictly adhere to long-established breed standards, that began with documented foundation breeding stock sharing a common set of inheritable characteristics, developed by long-established, reputable kennel clubs that recognize the dog as a purebred. Major Sir Jocelyn Morton Lucas, 4th Baronet, (27 August 1889 – 2 May 1980) was a British Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party politician. He was elected as the Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament for Portsmouth South (UK Parliament constituency), Portsmouth South in a by-election in 1939 and held the seat until he retired at the 1966 United Kingdom general election, 1966 general election. Prior to his election he had been the Portsmouth District Officer for Sir Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists. The Sealyham Terrier ( cy, Daeargi Sealyham) is a rare Welsh breed of small to medium-sized terrier that originated in Wales as a working dog. It is principally a white-bodied, rough-coated breed, developed in the mid-to-late-19th century by Captain John Edwardes at Sealyham House, Pembrokeshire. Sporting Lucas Terrier
The Sporting Lucas Terrier is a small breed of dog of the terrier type. The breed is named for Jocelyn Lucas. Appearance A short-legged working terrier that must be small and narrow enough in the chest to go to ground when required. About twelve inches at the withers, and about 15 lbs. in weight. The harsh shaggy coat is white with dark patches, or various combinations of brown, black and tan or grizzle and tan.
