Luc Versteylen
Luc Benoît Valérie Jean Laurent Marie Versteylen (Borgerhout, Antwerp, 11 September 1927 – Wommelgem, 10 February 2021) was a Flemish Jesuit priest and founder of the environmental movement Agalev. In his youth, Luc Versteylen was a member of Verdinaso. In his own words, as a 15-year-old volunteer aid worker, he received his priestly calling when he witnessed the havoc and human tragedy caused by the American air raid on Mortsel in April 1943. Versteylen was ordained a priest in 1959 and in 1960 became a teacher at Xaverius College in Borgerhout, where he had himself studied during the Second World War. Borgerhout () is the smallest district of Antwerp, Belgium. , the district houses 45,769 inhabitants on 3,93 km². It was an independent municipality until January 1983. The postal area code for Borgerhout is 2140. Geography Borgerhout is divided into two parts by a highway and the historical walls. The part inside those walls is "intra muros," meaning (within the walls). It is built around a big boulevard, the Turnhoutsebaan. The Turnhoutsebaan is the biggest shopping street, offering both food and clothing, in both Belgian and foreigner's stores. "Intra muros" is the young and trendy part of Borgerhout, with a lot of so-called "hipster bars". Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Xaverius College
Xaverius College, in Borgerhout, near Antwerp, Belgium, is affiliated with the Jesuits in Flanders, the northern and western part of Belgium where Dutch is spoken. History Xaverius College enrolls about 800 students, girls and boys, between 6 and 18 years old. It is a mix of old and new buildings around the recreation areas and the monastery garden. A group of Jesuits live nearby but they no longer teach as they used to. The long corridors on the monastery's ground floor are lined with the masterpieces of Alfred Ost, a well known Flemish artist.
