Lower North Water Bridge
The Lower North Water Bridge is a road bridge north of Montrose, Scotland. It carries the A92 over the River North Esk. It is situated on the border between Angus and Aberdeenshire. It is adjacent to the North Water Viaduct which previously carried the Montrose and Bervie Railway and is now a footpath. It is a Category A listed building. A92 Road
The A92 is a major road that runs through Fife, Dundee, Angus, Aberdeenshire, and Aberdeen City in Scotland. From south to north, it runs from Dunfermline to Blackdog, just north of Aberdeen. History The A92's original route in southern Fife is now numbered as the A921. It connects with the M90 junction 1 via Burntisland and Kirkcaldy and links into the Thornton bypass. Plans were drawn up in the 1960s for a new East Fife regional dual carriageway road starting at the M90 at Masterton (Junction 2), which would have mirrored what is now the A921 and B9157 to the Mossgreen area, before heading north-eastward to Chapel Level, connecting up with the Thornton By-pass. River North Esk, Angus
The North Esk ( gd, Easg Thuath) is a river in Angus and Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is formed by the meeting of the Water of Mark (from Glen Mark) and the Water of Lee (from Loch Lee), and enters the North Sea four miles north of Montrose. It forms the boundary between Angus and Aberdeenshire at certain stages in its course. It was also noted in the 19th century as a good point for fishing. Tributaries Downstream of the meeting of the headwaters referred to above, the River North Esk is joined by various other tributaries. The Water of Effock enters on its right side and then the Water of Tarf enters on its left bank at Tarfside. North Water Viaduct
The North Water Viaduct is a disused railway viaduct located north of Montrose, Angus, Montrose, Scotland. It was built by the Montrose and Bervie Railway and crosses the River North Esk, Angus, River North Esk. It has eleven spans. It is located adjacent to the older Lower North Water Bridge which carries the A92 road. The railway opened in 1865. It closed to passenger services in 1951 and to freight in 1966. In 1986, British Rail applied for permission to demolish the viaduct, but was refused. In 1996, it was announced that a grant from Historic Scotland would be available for refurbishing the viaduct. The viaduct now forms part of the National Cycle Network. Montrose And Bervie Railway
The Montrose and Bervie Railway was a Scottish railway. When the Aberdeen Railway opened in 1850, the coastal settlements north of Montrose were not linked in, and local interests promoted a branch line from Montrose to Bervie. They found it impossible to raise capital at first, but from 1861 the larger railways were promoting new connections around Aberdeen, and the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNoSR) decided that the Bervie line would give it a route to the south. That scheme did not proceed, but the GNoSR had put money in, and the simple branch line opened, in 1865. It was absorbed by the North British Railway in 1881, who also thought it might give them a springboard towards Aberdeen; that scheme too failed to materialise, and the line remained a quiet backwater. John Adam (5 March 1721 – 25 June 1792) was a Scottish architect, building contractor and supervisor. Life Born in Linktown of Abbotshall, now part of Kirkcaldy, Fife, he was the eldest son of architect and entrepreneur William Adam and his wife Mary Robertson (1698–1761). His younger brothers Robert and James Adam also became architects. The Adam family moved to Edinburgh in 1728, as William Adam's career as a designer of country houses began to take off. John attended Dalkeith Grammar School, outside the city, although he did not proceed to university as he was already being involved in the family businesses.
