''The Loved One'' is a 1965 black-and-white comedy film about the funeral business in Los Angeles, which is based on '' The Loved One: An Anglo-American Tragedy'' (1948), a short satirical novel by Evelyn Waugh. ''The Loved One: An Anglo-American Tragedy'' (1948) is a short satirical novel by British novelist Evelyn Waugh about the funeral business in Los Angeles, the British expatriate community in Hollywood, and the film industry. Conception ''The Loved One'' was written as a result of Evelyn Waugh's trip to Hollywood in February and March 1947. MGM was interested in adapting Waugh's novel ''Brideshead Revisited'' (1945). Waugh had written that, "I should not think six Americans will understand it" and was baffled and even angered by its popularity in America, referring to it as "my humiliating success in [the] U.S.A." Waugh had no intention of allowing MGM to adapt ''Brideshead Revisited'', but allowed the film studio to bring him and his wife to California and pay him $2000 a week during negotiations. ''Loved Ones'' is a 1985 collection of pen portraits by Diana Mosley. It was published by Sidgwick & Jackson. In 2008, three of the portraits were republished in the collection, ''The Pursuit of Laughter''. Synopsis The book includes pen portraits of leading figures that featured prominently in Mosley's life. These include Lytton Strachey and Dora Carrington, former neighbours and friends of hers. Violet Hammersley, an author, close friend of her mother's and prominent figure in childhood. The writer, Evelyn Waugh a close personal friend. The Loved Ones (Australian Band)
The Loved Ones were an Australian rock band formed in 1965 in Melbourne following the British Invasion. The line-up of Gavin Anderson on drums, Ian Clyne on organ and piano, Gerry Humphrys on vocals and harmonica, Rob Lovett on guitar and Kim Lynch on bass guitar recorded their early hits. Their signature song, "The Loved One", reached number two on Australian singles charts and was later covered by INXS. In 2001 it was selected as number six on the Australasian Performing Right Association's (APRA) list of Top 30 Australian songs of all time. Their debut album, '' The Loved Ones' Magic Box'', was released late in 1967 and included their other hit singles, "Ever Lovin' Man" and "Sad Dark Eyes". They disbanded in October 1967 and, although the band's main career lasted only two years, they are regarded as one of the most significant Australian bands of the 1960s. The Loved Ones (American Band)
The Loved Ones are an American punk band based out of Philadelphia. Founded in late 2003, the band consists of Dave Hause (lead vocals, guitar), David Walsh (guitar), Chris Gonzalez (bass/guitar), Michael Cotterman (bass) and Mike Sneeringer (drums). They are presently signed to Fat Wreck Chords. The band never officially disbanded. But in addition to members doing other projects, the band had little activity from 2010 through 2016, when they went on a ten-year anniversary tour. History The band was formed in late 2003 by Dave Hause, whose band The Curse had just broken up although he was still in Paint It Black. He was joined by Michael "Spider" Cotterman, formerly the bassist for Kid Dynamite (band) who Hause used to roadie for, and Michael Sneeringer, drummer from Trial by Fire. ''The Loved Ones'' is an EP by the American punk rock band The Loved Ones (American band), The Loved Ones. It was released on February 22, 2005 by Jade Tree Records, who had previously released albums by Trial by Fire (band), Trial by Fire and Kid Dynamite (band), Kid Dynamite, bands the members of The Loved Ones formerly played in. The EP was the band's first release through a label, as they previously only self-released a four-song demo. Two of the songs on this EP, "Chicken" and "Candy Cane", were also on that demo. Originally conceived as Ellis's solo record of songs about "unforgettable women," it became a duo project based on his realization that "Branford would sound really good on some of (the songs).". ''Imperial Bedroom'' is the seventh studio album by English singer-songwriter Elvis Costello, and his sixth with the Attractions—keyboardist Steve Nieve, bassist Bruce Thomas and drummer Pete Thomas (no relation).
