Yiannis Chryssomallis ( el, Γιάννης Χρυσομάλλης; born November 14, 1954), known professionally as Yanni ( ), is a Greek-American composer, keyboardist, pianist, and music producer. Yanni continues to use the musical shorthand that he developed as a child, blending jazz, classical, soft rock, and world music to create predominantly instrumental works. Although this genre of music was not well suited for commercial pop radio and music television, Yanni received international recognition by producing concerts at historic monuments and by producing videos that were broadcast on public television. The album attained Platinum status and was the second Grammy nomination for Yanni. ''Out of Silence'' is the third studio album by Greek keyboardist and composer Yanni, released by Private Music in 1987. Its corresponding concert tour was the ''1987 Concert Series''. The liner notes dedicate the album to his homeland in Kalamata, Greece respectively: "Dedicated to the town of Kalamata, Greece which stood strong and waited for me one last time." The album was reissued in 2009 by Valley Entertainment. ''Niki Nana'' is the fifth studio album by Greek keyboardist and composer Yanni, released in August 1989 by Private Music. Background By 1989, Yanni had released four studio albums, the most of recent of which was ''Chameleon Days'' (1988). When he started work on a follow-up record, he took a musical departure as he had explored music of an orchestral nature on his first three albums, in particular using synthesised strings. For ''Niki Nana'', Yanni incorporated more rock-oriented arrangements with rhythm dominating the music, for which he used his time playing in rock bands in his early career as inspiration. "Niki Nana (We're One)" started as an instrumental track and Yanni felt it had a celebratory feel, hearing "people singing and dancing" of a South American or African flavour. ''Reflections of Passion'' is the first compilation album and sixth album overall by Greek keyboardist and composer Yanni, released on May 15, 1990 by Private Music. It is a selection of tracks from his five previous studio albums, released between 1980 and 1989, plus three new compositions. Yanni was encouraged to release the album by his then partner, actress Linda Evans. ''Reflections of Passion'' became Yanni's fastest selling and most successful album of his career upon release. ''Dare to Dream'' (stylised as ''DARE to dream'') is the eighth studio album by Greek keyboardist and composer Yanni, released in March 1992 on Private Music. The album peaked at No. 2 on ''Billboard's'' Top New Age Albums chart and at No. 32 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart in the same year. It went gold within two months of its release and was nominated for a Grammy. The album was followed by the sell-out, 65-city ''Dare to Dream'' concert tour which challenged audiences "not to be afraid to dream". On the concert tour, Yanni also advised the fans not to let their worries rob them of the joy of life, and encourages them to "dare to dream" - which is, of course, the theme of the album.
