London Regional Transport
London Regional Transport (LRT) was the organisation responsible for most of the public transport network in London, England, between 1984 and 2000. In common with all London transport authorities from 1933 to 2000, the public name and operational brand of the organisation was London Transport from 1989, but until then it traded as LRT. This policy was reversed after the appointment of Sir Wilfred Newton in 1989, who also abolished the recently devised LRT logo and restored the traditional roundel. History The LRT was created by the London Regional Transport Act 1984 and was under direct state control, reporting to the Secretary of State for Transport. It took over responsibility from the Greater London Council on 29 June 1984, two years before the GLC was formally abolished. Because the Act only received the Royal assent three days earlier, its assets were temporarily frozen by the banks as they had not received mandates to transfer. London Regional Transport Act 1984
The London Regional Transport Act 1984 (1984 c. 32) was an Act of Parliament, Act of the United Kingdom Parliament which created the statutory corporation named London Regional Transport. It received royal assent on 26 June 1984, and its major provisions took effect on 29 June. Later legislation has modified the effects of this Act. Armchair Passenger Transport was a bus and coach charter operator in London. History Armchair Passenger Transport was established as a coach operator in November 1960, being sold to EH Mundy in 1974. In June 1990 it became a London Regional Transport contractor when it commenced operating route 260 with 12 Alexander bodied Leyland Olympians and three Leyland Atlanteans. Other routes operated were 65, 117, 190, 209, 237, 485, E2 and E8. First London was a bus company operating services in east and west Greater London, England. It was a subsidiary of FirstGroup and operated buses under contract to Transport for London. It was formed in the late 1990s through the acquisition of three London bus operators. First London's garages were sold off between December 2007 and June 2013 with the last closing in September 2013. Bexleybus
Bexleybus was an English bus operator. A subsidiary of Selkent, it was established as a low cost operator. It operated services under contract to London Regional Transport from January 1988 until January 1991. History Bexleybus was formed by Selkent as a low cost operator to operate tendered services in the Bexleyheath and Woolwich areas. With London Buses having to tender for routes as part of the London Regional Transport Act 1984, low cost units were established with the hope that reduced costs would allow them to be able to competitively bid. London Buslines was a bus operator in London that operated services under contract to London Regional Transport, London Buses between July 1985 and March 1996. History London Buslines was formed to bid for bus services being put out to tender by London Regional Transport, London Buses as part of the Privatisation of London bus services, deregulation of London bus services.
