Llanishen Golf Club
Llanishen Golf Club is a golf course in Thornhill, north of Llanishen on the northern outskirts of Cardiff, Wales. It lies across the M4 motorway from Cardiff. The parkland course, which was 5338 yards as of 2005, is set to the backdrop of Caerphilly Mountain. History Llanishen Golf Club was established in 1905. It originally began as Lisvane Golf Club, which predated Radyr Golf Club (est. 1902). In April 1995 a new clubhouse, with a club and lounge bar and restaurant was inaugurated. Between 2007 and 2009 it underwent a change, with a drainage programme to reduce moisture on the greens, and as a result they're some of the driest in Wales. In August 2015 an 86-year-old golfer sank a hole-in-one from the 16th par 3 tee. Thornhill ( Welsh ''Draenen Pen-y-graig'' ''draen'' thorn + ''-en'' one + ''pen'' top + 'y' the + ''craig'' rock utated to 'graig' is a community in the north of the city of Cardiff, Wales. It lies south of Caerphilly. Description It is a relatively modern area with housing stock dating mainly from the late 1980s and beyond. The area has a centralised precinct providing services, comprising a community centre (Thornhill Church Centre), a Sainsbury's supermarket, with an integral Post Office and Pharmacy; and the North Cardiff Medical Centre. There are three public houses located in Thornhill: the Old Cottage, Pendragon, and the Ffynnon Wen. Though on Thornhill Road, The Traveller's Rest to the north is on Caerphilly Mountain and in Caerphilly based on its postcode and council locale. Llanishen (Welsh Llanisien ''llan'' church + ''Isien'' Saint Isan) is a district and community in the north of Cardiff, Wales. Its population as of the 2011 census was 17,417. Llanishen is the home of the former HMRC tax offices, the tallest buildings in north Cardiff and a landmark for miles around. The office complex overlooks the Crystal and Fishguard estates, the Parc Tŷ Glas industrial estate, Llanishen village, leafy suburban roads and parks that constitute the district. M4 Motorway
The M4, originally the London-South Wales Motorway, is a motorway in the United Kingdom running from west London to southwest Wales. The English section to the Severn Bridge was constructed between 1961 and 1971; the Welsh element was largely complete by 1980, though a non-motorway section around Briton Ferry bridge remained until 1993. Caerphilly Mountain
Caerphilly Mountain ( cy, Mynydd Caerffili) lies between Cardiff and Caerphilly at the southern edge of the South Wales Coalfield. Its summit is above sea-level. Since 1957 there had been a small wooden snack bar near to the summit. In September 2011 this was replaced by an eco-friendly permanent building, with under floor heating, solar panels and rainwater-flushed toilets, at a cost of £300,000. Radyr Golf Club
Radyr Golf Club is a golf course in Radyr, northwestern Cardiff, Wales. It is the oldest existing golf club in Cardiff, established on 29 November 1902, following the breakup of Lisvane Golf Club, the preceding year. History In 1904 the club hosted the inaugural Welsh Professional Championship. In 1912 the parkland course was redesigned by Harry Colt, who overlooked further changes nine years later. In 1913, a fire gutted the original clubhouse, and was replaced by a building which still exists. In 1920 Rupert Phillips and Raymond Thomas played at the course. The golfers were bet that they could not play through from Radyr in Cardiff to the golf club at Southerndown, a distance of 20 miles. It took 608 strokes and 20 lost balls as well as being chased by a bull before they were able to collect the bet.
