Littledeath
''Littledeath'' is the fourth studio album by Scottish band Love and Money, released by Iona Gold in the UK in 1993 and Mesa Records in the US in 1994. The album produced one single, "The Last Ship on the River". Background Despite the strained relationship between Love and Money and their label, Phonogram, the band were commissioned to record their fourth studio album following the release of ''Dogs in the Traffic'' in 1991. However, when the band presented approximately six new tracks to Phonogram, the label felt they were not commercial enough and lacked hit potential. The two parties were unable to come to an agreement, resulting in Love and Money leaving the label in late 1992 and completing the recording of ''Littledeath'' themselves. Once completed, the band secured a deal to release ''Littledeath'' on the Glasgow-based independent label Iona Gold. Love And Money (band)
Love and Money are a Scottish rock/soul/funk band, formed in 1985 in Glasgow, Scotland. The band was formed by three former members of Friends Again (singer-songwriter and guitarist James Grant, drummer Stuart Kerr and keyboardist Paul McGeechan) along with bassist Bobby Paterson, who replaced Friends Again's Neil Cunningham and who had been a member of Set the Tone, a band previously signed to Island Records in 1983. In their initial nine years together they recorded four moderately successful albums, three of which were released in the United States, and had six chart hits in the United Kingdom. Critical reception On its release, Neil McKay of '' Sunday Life'' wrote, "A vehicle for the classy songwriting of James Grant, Love and Money made some fine soul and country tinged pop rock over the course of four albums spanning the late 80s and early 90s." Nick Duerden of '' Q'' noted the band's shift from their initial image as "Scotland's latest rock hopes" to "a cult act whose heart-on-sleeve approach often went against mainstream tastes" after Grant discovered "jazz, subtlety, and artful contemplation". James Grant (musician)
James Grant (born 8 October 1964) is a Scottish musician, singer, and songwriter. He grew up in Glasgow's Castlemilk district and still resides in the city. Friends Again James Grant's music career began in 1982 as songwriter and guitarist in the new wave band Friends Again, alongside Chris Thomson, later of the Bathers. The group had minor hit singles with "State of Art", "Sunkissed" and "Honey at the Core". They released a self-titled EP in 1983 which reached No. 59 in the UK and then recorded their debut album, ''Trapped & Unwrapped'', in 1984. On 5 June 2015, as part of the BBC Music Day at the broadcaster's Pacific Quay HQ in Glasgow, Grant and Thomson reunited to play two Friends Again songs - "State of Art" and "Honey at the Core" - for a live studio audience. ''Dogs in the Traffic'' is the third studio album by Scottish band Love and Money, released by Fontana in 1991. The album reached No. 41 on the UK Albums Chart. Three singles were released from the album: " My Love Lives in a Dead House", "Looking for Angeline" and "Winter". "Looking for Angeline" also served as the lead track on the band's 1991 EP ''Wishing Waters''. "Winter" peaked at No. 52 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2022, ''Dogs in the Traffic'' received a 30th anniversary reissue on CD and vinyl by Past Night from Glasgow. Three different editions of the vinyl were released: black, transparent red and limited edition transparent green vinyl. The CD contains six bonus tracks. "Winter" is a song by Scottish band Love and Money, which was released in 1991 as the third and final single from their third studio album ''Dogs in the Traffic''. The song was written by James Grant and produced by Steve Nye. "Winter" reached No. 52 in the UK Singles Chart and remained in the Top 100 for two weeks. Release "Winter" was originally to be released as the first single from ''Dogs in the Traffic'', with a scheduled release date of 28 May 1991. However, shortly before its release date, Fontana chose to release " My Love Lives in a Dead House" in favour of "Winter" as they felt the song's title would hinder its success during the spring season. "Winter" was later released as the album's third and final single on 18 November 1991. Clyde 1 is an Independent Local Radio station based in Glasgow, Scotland, owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Glasgow and West Central Scotland.
