James Grant (musician)
James Grant (born 8 October 1964) is a Scottish musician, singer, and songwriter. He grew up in Glasgow's Castlemilk district and still resides in the city. Friends Again James Grant's music career began in 1982 as songwriter and guitarist in the new wave band Friends Again, alongside Chris Thomson, later of the Bathers. The group had minor hit singles with "State of Art", "Sunkissed" and "Honey at the Core". They released a self-titled EP in 1983 which reached No. 59 in the UK and then recorded their debut album, ''Trapped & Unwrapped'', in 1984. On 5 June 2015, as part of the BBC Music Day at the broadcaster's Pacific Quay HQ in Glasgow, Grant and Thomson reunited to play two Friends Again songs - "State of Art" and "Honey at the Core" - for a live studio audience. Castlemilk
Castlemilk ( gd, Caisteal Mheilc) is a district of Glasgow, Scotland. It lies to the far south of the city centre, adjacent to the Croftfoot and Simshill residential areas within the city to the north-west, the town of Rutherglen - neighbourhoods of Spittal to the north-east and Fernhill to the east, Linn Park and its golf course to the west, and the separate village of Carmunnock further south across countryside. The area was developed by the Glasgow Corporation as a peripheral housing scheme in the 1950s to accommodate 34,000 people from inner-city slum areas such as the Gorbals. The new residents were provided with open spaces, a clean environment and indoor toilets and bathrooms. The modern development grew around Castlemilk House, a stately old mansion built around Cassilton Tower, which was started in 1460 on the site of a 13th-century castle, and was demolished in December 1969. ''I Shot the Albatross'' is the third solo studio album by Scottish singer-songwriter James Grant, released in the UK by Vertical on 2002. The album is a collection of poetry by various poets set to music written by Grant. Background Grant first had the idea of setting poetry to music after he purchased the anthology ''The Rattle Bag'' in the early 1990s. He was inspired to carry out such a project after he and Donald Shaw collaborated in 1999 on the music for a Scottish film titled ''Transition'', which involved Grant selecting, editing and narrating a selection of 20th century Scottish poetry. Grant then spent a period of researching and reading more poetry before gathering a number of poems and setting them to music. He stated in 2002, "The poems themselves are, of course, the definitive. ''The Devil's Debt'' is the fifth studio album by Scottish band Love and Money, released by Vertical in 2012. Background In 2011, Love and Money reunited to perform at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall as part of the Celtic Connections festival, which was followed later in the year with a concert at the SEC Centre. The band's reunion led to the decision to record both new material and some of the songs originally intended for the shelved album ''The Mother's Boy'', which was recorded between 1988's '' Strange Kind of Love'' and 1991's '' Dogs in the Traffic''. ''The Devil's Debt'' was released in 2012 and reached No. 60 on the Scottish Albums Chart. Capercaillie is a Scottish folk band, founded in 1984 by Donald Shaw and led by Karen Matheson, and which performs traditional Gaelic and contemporary English songs. The group adapts traditional Gaelic music and traditional lyrics with modern production techniques and instruments such as electric guitar and bass guitar, though rarely synthesizers or drum machines. Monica Queen is a singer from Glasgow, Scotland who has collaborated with Belle & Sebastian (e.g., on ''Lazy Line Painter Jane'' from the Lazy Line Painter Jane EP), Chris Coco, James Grant and Jim White, among others.
