Lithuanian National Basketball Team
The Lithuania men's national basketball team ( lt, Lietuvos nacionalinė vyrų krepšinio rinktinė) represents Lithuania in international basketball competitions. They are controlled by the Lithuanian Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Lithuania. Despite Lithuania's small size, with a population of less than 3 million, the country's devotion to basketball has made them a traditional force of the sport in Europe. The Lithuanian national team won the last EuroBasket tournaments prior to World War II, in 1937 and 1939. The 1939 team was led by Frank Lubin, who helped popularize basketball in the country and was called the "grandfather of Lithuanian basketball". Following the country's annexation by the Soviet Union during the war, Lithuanian players frequently formed the core of the Soviet national team. Kazys Maksvytis
Kazys Maksvytis (born 15 June 1977) is a Lithuanian professional basketball coach who is currently the head coach for Lithuania men's national basketball team and Žalgiris Kaunas. Coaching career Professional clubs From 2011 to 2012, Maksvytis was the head coach of the Lithuanian club Sakalai Vilnius. On 2012 he became the head coach of Neptūnas Klaipėda. In 2012–13 season he guided the team to Lithuanian Basketball League third place. In 2013–14 season Maksvytis won the second place in the Lithuanian Basketball League and won the right to play in the EuroLeague next season. On December 2015, did Maksvytis was appointed as the head coach for Lietkabelis Panevėžys. FIBA Stanković Continental Champions' Cup
The FIBA Stanković Continental Champions’ Cup, also known as the FIBA Mini Basketball World Cup, is an international tournament of basketball for men's national teams, that is held annually by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The idea for the tournament came from Dr. Carl Men Ky Ching, President of FIBA, and the purpose of the Cup was to honor Serbian Borislav Stanković, the FIBA Secretary General Emeritus, for his significant contribution to the world of basketball. Being the only Chinese President of the 28 International Sports Federations, Dr. Ching selected China as the host country for the Cup. The Cup is organised to promote basketball in that country, and to provide an opportunity for the China men's national basketball team, to compete with other top national teams from all around the world, at the highest level. The FIBA Diamond Ball competition was an official international basketball tournament organised by FIBA,http://www.fiba.basketball/en/events FIBA´s official events by year held every Olympic year prior to the Summer Olympics. The first tournament was held in 2000, for men's teams only. In 2004 and 2008, tournaments were held for both men and women. The competing teams are the host country of that year's Summer Olympics, defending the FIBA Diamond Ball champions, the reigning FIBA World Cup, Summer Olympics, and continental champions, minus the United States men's team.
