Literacy Center West
Literacy Center West is a nonprofit organization located in Cincinnati, Ohio’s East Price Hill neighborhood. The center provides GED preparation and job-readiness training to low-income individuals. The overall mission of the center is "to develop a community in which citizens improve their lives through education and economic opportunity." History Founded in 1988 as Nativity Literacy Center, the organization changed its name to Literacy Center West in 2002 and switched focus from basic literacy instruction to GED preparation and job placement services. Price Hill is three neighborhoods of Cincinnati, Ohio, located north of Sedamsville and Riverside, south of Westwood and South Fairmount, and west of Queensgate. General Educational Development
The General Educational Development (GED) tests are a group of four subject tests which, when passed, provide certification that the test taker has United States or Canadian high school-level academic skills. It is an alternative to the US high school diploma, as is HiSET. The GED Testing Service website currently does not refer to the test as anything but "GED". The American Council on Education (ACE), in Washington, D.C. The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple choice test, administered by the United States Military Entrance Processing Command, used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States Armed Forces. It is often offered to U.S. high school students when they are in the 10th, 11th and 12th grade, though anyone eligible for enlistment may take it. The Cincinnati Public School district includes 16 high schools, each accepting students on a citywide basis. The district includes many public Montessori schools, one of which, Clark Montessori, is the first public Montessori high school in the United States.
