Manly Yacht Club
Manly Yacht Club (MYC) is a sailing club in the suburb of Manly on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. History Manly Yacht Club was formed in 1950 as the Manly 14 ft Skiff Club. In the late 1950s a training boat called the Manly Junior was introduced. The 1960s was a busy decade with the formulation of the Yachting Division and the Manly Graduate division. The club's name was subsequently changed to the Manly Yacht Club. In the early 1980s the club moved into the present building which was the site of the former Gentlemen's Baths, 'the largest and most efficiently equipped gentlemen's swimming baths in the state', opened in 1892. In October 1926, a new Olympic pool with a grandstand to seat 1400 people was opened at a cost of £11,000. The Baths suffered severe storm damage in May 1974 and were closed in April 1976. Mosman Bay
Mosman Bay is a bay of Sydney Harbour adjacent to the suburb of Mosman, 4 km north-east of the Sydney CBD in New South Wales, Australia. Three ferry wharves, Mosman Bay, South Mosman and Old Cremorne, are within the bay, all being served by the F6 Mosman Bay ferry service. History Originally known as Great Sirius Cove, this name lives on in the next bay to the east, Sirius Cove (originally Little Sirius Cove). The bay was originally so named after Governor Arthur Phillip's flagship and only defence of the colony, , which was refitted in the Bay in 1789, the second year of the colony's existence. In 1831, the bay's current namesake, Archibald Mosman, obtained a land grant for the area surrounding the bay. Sydney Amateur Sailing Club
The Sydney Amateur Sailing Club (SASC) is one of the oldest sailing clubs in Australia and is located on Sydney's lower north shore, with its clubhouse on the western edge of Mosman Bay. Establishment The Sydney Amateur Sailing Club was founded on 1 October 1872, starting with four boats and twelve members. It was formed in response by owners whose boats were too small (less than ) to be admitted into the existing yacht clubs. The inaugural commodore was J. H. Amora and the vice commodore was W. Backhouse. The first event held by the club was on 30 November 1872 in Sydney harbour, with eight boats in the fleet. The initial meetings of the club were held at the Oxford Hotel. Kirribilli is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. One of the city's most established and affluent neighbourhoods, it is located three kilometres north of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area administered by North Sydney Council. Kirribilli is a harbourside suburb, sitting on the Lower North Shore of Sydney Harbour. Kirribilli House is one of the two official residences of the Prime Minister of Australia. The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron is a yacht club located in North Sydney, Australia in the suburb of Kirribilli. The squadron was founded in 1862. It has occupied its grounds in East Kirribilli, near Kirribilli House, since 1902. History The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron was founded when nineteen yachtsmen met in the office of William Walker MLC on 8 July 1862, to found a yacht club to be designated 'the Australian Yacht Club'. An application was made for a Royal Warrant and the Patronage of the Prince of Wales. On 27 June 1863 the Commodore, the William Walker MLC, received a letter from the Colonial Secretary's Office notifying him of the Prince of Wales' willingness to become Patron of the 'Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron'. Newport is a suburb of northern Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia, in the local government area of Northern Beaches Council. It is part of the Northern Beaches region. Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) is one of Australia's leading yacht clubs with a strong elite sailing focus located in Pittwater Newport, New South Wales. The club was formerly located at Kirribilli before relocating to its present location on Green Point, towards the southern end of Pittwater. Royal Motor Yacht Club Of New South Wales
The Royal Motor Yacht Club of New South Wales is a club for motorboat owners located at 21 Wunulla Road, Point Piper. The club was founded in 1905 as the Motor Boat Club of New South Wales. At its foundation it had 92 members, all boat owners. Philip Mitchell was elected commodore, Dr George Reid vice-commodore and Frank Albert (of Albert Music) rear-commodore. George W. Whatmore, who had initiated the club's formation by writing to ''The Sydney Morning Herald'', became the first secretary, with Fred Wiesener as treasurer. Members initially met at rooms at Circular Quay. In 1910 the current site was purchased and a clubhouse built.
