Buildings can appear to be twisted by design, where the twisting (torsion, helix, etc.) is structural rather than merely an ornamental detail. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat defines a twisting building as one that progressively rotates its floor plates or its façade as it gains height. There are 15 spiralled skyscrapers, and 13 more are under construction. Turning Torso, in Malmö, Sweden is regarded as the first twisted tower or building. Torsion (mechanics)
In the field of solid mechanics, torsion is the twisting of an object due to an applied torque. Torsion is expressed in either the pascal (Pa), an SI unit for newtons per square metre, or in pounds per square inch (psi) while torque is expressed in newton metres (N·m) or foot-pound force (ft·lbf). Cayan Tower
Cayan Tower, known as Infinity Tower before it was inaugurated, is a , 75-story skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by Cayan Real Estate Investment and Development. The tower is designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill SOM architectural group. Upon its opening on 10 June 2013, the tower became world's tallest high-rise building with a twist of 90 degrees. Ocean Heights is a supertall residential skyscraper in Dubai Marina, Dubai, UAE. The tower stands tall with 83 floors. The tower is designed by Andrew Bromberg of Aedas. The building was topped out on 22 December 2009, and completed in 2010. As of 2022, Ocean Heights is the seventh-tallest residential building in Dubai and 20th-tallest residential building in the world. The tower, with its unique curves and twisting motion as it ascends, is actually the third version of the tower proposed by DAMAC Properties Co. Telekom Tower, also known as TM Tower is a 55-story, 310-meter-tall supertall skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is the world's 4th tallest twisted building.
