''Medieval'' (''Jan Žižka'' or ''Warrior of God'') is a 2022 English-language Czech historical drama film directed by Petr Jákl. It is about the life of Jan Žižka, a Bohemian military commander who never lost a battle. The film is set prior to the Hussite Wars (1419–1434), when Žižka was young. It tells the story of how Žižka became a famous military commander. With a budget of KČ500 million ($20.3 million), it is the most expensive Czech film ever made. Plot In the 14th century, Wenceslas IV is the king of Bohemia and Roman emperor at the same time. Wenceslas has received the throne after his father Charles IV, but his reign is not as successful, and the kingdom seems to fall apart under his weak rule. ''Tobruk'' is a 2008 film written and directed by Václav Marhoul and starring Jan Meduna and Petr Vanek. It is an adaptation of the classic 1895 American Civil War novel ''The Red Badge of Courage'' by Stephen Crane, but transfers the action to North Africa during World War II. Plot Jiří and Jan are two Czech soldiers, fighting alongside the Allied forces against the Italians during World War II in Tobruk, Libya. Jiří Pospichal, 18 years old, signs up as a volunteer in the Czechoslovak 11th Infantry Battalion. ''The Emperor and the Golem'' ( cs, Císařův pekař a pekařův císař) is a two-part Czechoslovak historical fantasy comedy film produced in 1951. The film is set during the reign of Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor and was filmed in color (not common for Czechoslovak films in that period), because of the international release. It is one of the best known films of Jan Werich, who's performing a dual role of Emperor Rudolf and baker Matěj. Plot Part I Aging and eccentric Emperor Rudolf II, who is obsessed with finding the Golem, refuses to hear out ambassadors and falls into destructive fits. Later he welcomes Magister Edward Kelley at Prague Castle and shows him his alchemist laboratory. All the alchemists are either charlatans or fools. Lajka (in English: ''Laika'') is a 2017 Czech science fiction comedy animated film. It is inspired by Soviet space dog Laika. Plot In the Soviet town of Baikonur, Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, Kazakhstan, a female stray dog is captured while scavenging for food to feed her puppies. She is named Laika and brought to the Baikonur Cosmodrome, local spaceport. Professor Voroljov and his assistant Kokotov begin preparing Laika for space travel. On the day before the launch, Laika manages to get out of her cage and visits the space rocket. Then she returns for her puppies and smuggles them into the rocket. The following day she is launched into space along with her pups hidden in the rocket. The news of Laika's travel to space arrive to the United States. ''The Devil's Mistress'' is a 2016 Czech–Slovak historical biography film directed by Filip Renč and produced by Jiří Jurtin. The film stars the Slovak actress Tatiana Pauhofová who plays Lída Baarová, the mistress of Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.
