Delhi, officially the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, is a city and a union territory of India containing New Delhi, the capital of India. Kavi Narmad Central Library
Kavi Narmad Central Library is a public library in Surat built by the Surat Municipal Corporation in 1991 at Ghod Dod Road. The library is the largest in the city with 2,26,391 books and a membership of 46,855. The library premises have a total area of 6158 sq. m. and was built at the cost of 4.03 crore. The library also houses a reading room and a newspaper section open to public. It is named after Veer Narmad the famous Gujarati poet from Surat and was opened to public on his 158th birth anniversary. On 18 January 2011 Information Centre, separate sections for senior citizen and rare book collection, conference hall and audio visual room were added. Gujarat
Gujarat (, ) is a state along the western coast of India. Its coastline of about is the longest in the country, most of which lies on the Kathiawar peninsula. Gujarat is the fifth-largest Indian state by area, covering some ; and the ninth-most populous state, with a population of 60.4 million. Surat
Surat is a city in the western Indian state of Gujarat. The word Surat literally means ''face'' in Gujarati and Hindi. Located on the banks of the river Tapti near its confluence with the Arabian Sea, it used to be a large seaport. It is now the commercial and economic center in South Gujarat, and one of the largest urban areas of western India. It has well-established diamond and textile industry, and is a major supply centre for apparels and accessories. About 90% of the world's diamonds supply are cut and polished in the city. Andrews Library
Andrews Library is the oldest library in Surat, Gujarat, India, established in 1850. History It was established in 1850. The library was named after Andrews, a retired magistrate, and co-established by Rao Bahadur Naginchand Jhaveri, a wealthy pearl dealer who often contributed to the development of the city. Collections The library holds some rare works in arts and history, this literary realm also caters to students from the science, commerce, engineering and medical fields, and provides newspapers and magazines in many languages for the locals. In 2006, floods had destroyed about 25,000 of the libraries' book collection. Bookworm Children's Library
Bookworm is a library for children that operates out of the locality of Taleigão, near the capital city of Panjim (Panaji) in Goa, India. The lending library is aimed "for children of all ages and abilities" and has dedicated spaces for creative activities and reading. Bookworm also runs a "program of workshops for both children and parents." It promotes cultural activities—with a needlecraft group, book discussions, a pre-school program and an adult art program. The library is located near St Michael's Church in Taleigao. History Bookworm was launched in 2005 by Elaine Mendonsa and Sujata Noronha, both educators, with the aim of creating a library and learning space to enhance literacy and the love of books amongst the children of Goa. Taleigão
Taleigão, or Platô de Taleigão, is a neighborhood located in the southern part of the city of Panaji, the capital of the Indian state of Goa. It is entirely located on the island of Tiswadi, which is one of the talukas in the state of Goa. The neighborhood is known for its important campus at the Goa University. Goa University Library
Goa University Library is one of the major libraries in the state of Goa, India. It houses an estimated 140,000 books and 300 journals. It also is home to special interest collections and rare and antique manuscripts, according to its official website. History The Goa University Library and Information Centre was set up on 30 June 1985 and was built on the existing library of the Centre for Post Graduate Research and Instruction, University of Bombay, which itself was the precursor to the Goa University. At that time, the collection totalled 37,678 books and several bound volumes of periodicals. Panaji
Panaji (; also known as Panjim) is the capital of the Indian state of Goa and the headquarters of North Goa district. Previously, it was the territorial capital of the former Portuguese India. It lies on the banks of the Mandovi river estuary in the Tiswadi sub-district ''(tehsil)''. With a population of 114,759 in the metropolitan area, Panaji is Goa's largest urban agglomeration, ahead of Margao and Mormugao. Goa State Central Library
Goa State Central Library is the main library in the State of Goa, India. It is located in Panjim (Panaji) and its website claims that it is the first public library to be set up across India, in the early 1830s. Oldest in India According to its official site, it is "the oldest Public Library in India," having been inaugurated on 15 September 1832 by the Portuguese Viceroy of Goa, Dom Manuel de Portugal e Castro. It was known then as the ''Publica Livraria'' of the ''Academia Militar de Goa'' (Military Training Institute). In 1834, the Portuguese government ordered the "suppression" of certain religious orders. The book collections of various convents belonging to these religious orders were transferred to the library, augmenting the repository considerably. Margao or Madgaon is the commercial capital of the Indian state of Goa. It stands on banks of the Sal river and is the administrative headquarters of Salcete sub-district and South Goa district. It is Goa's second largest city by population after Vasco. Etymology ''Margão'' is the Portuguese spelling, with (''Madgao'') being used in Konkani.
