Area Code
A telephone numbering plan is a type of numbering scheme used in telecommunication to assign telephone numbers to subscriber telephones or other telephony endpoints. Telephone numbers are the addresses of participants in a telephone network, reachable by a system of destination code routing. Telephone numbering plans are defined in each of the administrative regions of the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and in private telephone networks. For public numbering systems, geographic location typically plays a role in the sequence of numbers assigned to each telephone subscriber. Many numbering plan administrators subdivide their territory of service into geographic regions designated by a prefix, often called an area code or city code, which is a set of digits forming the most-significant part of the dialing sequence to reach a telephone subscriber. Numbering plans may follow a variety of design strategies which have often arisen from the historical evolution of individual ...

Area Code 516
Area code 516 is a telephone area code of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) in the U.S. state of New York. The numbering plan area (NPA) comprises the Nassau County portion of Long Island. History When the North American Numbering Plan was established by AT&T in October 1947, Nassau and Suffolk counties, the lower Hudson Valley, and some areas adjacent were assigned area code 914. At the time, this area was largely coextensive with the New York state portion of the New York metropolitan area. In 1951, Nassau and Suffolk were designated as a separate numbering plan area with area code 516. Despite Long Island's growth in both population and telephone service during the second half of the 20th century, this configuration remained for five decades. By the late 1990s, the proliferation of pagers and cell phones required further division to provide more telephone numbers for Long Island. On November 1, 1999, Suffolk was separated as a new numbering plan area with area code 631 ...

Area Code 561
Area code 561 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for Palm Beach County in the U.S. state of Florida. It was created on May 13, 1996, in a split of area code 407. The numbering plan area (NPA) comprises nearly every major city in the county, the largest of which being West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Wellington, Boynton Beach, Jupiter, Delray Beach, and Belle Glade. Within only five years of creation, NPA 561 was close to exhaustion again from rapid growth of service demands in the Palm Beaches/Treasure Coast region and the proliferation of cell phones. In mitigation, the northern part of 561, the Treasure Coast, was split off with area code 772 in 2002. Because of the Palm Beaches' continued growth, 561 is close to exhaustion, resulting in the approval and planning for an all-service overlay plan by adding area code 728 to the same numbering plan area, with implementation scheduled for March 10, 2023. Prior to October 2021, area code 561 had tele ...

Virginia
Virginia, officially the Commonwealth of Virginia, is a state in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions of the United States, between the Atlantic Coast and the Appalachian Mountains. The geography and climate of the Commonwealth are shaped by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Chesapeake Bay, which provide habitat for much of its flora and fauna. The capital of the Commonwealth is Richmond; Virginia Beach is the most-populous city, and Fairfax County is the most-populous political subdivision. The Commonwealth's population was over 8.65million, with 36% of them living in the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area. The area's history begins with several indigenous groups, including the Powhatan. In 1607, the London Company established the Colony of Virginia as the first permanent English colony in the New World. Virginia's state nickname, the Old Dominion, is a reference to this status. Slave labor and land acquired from displaced native tribes fueled the ...

Area Code 313
Area code 313 is a telephone area code of the North American Numbering Plan serving Detroit and most of its closest suburbs in Wayne County, Michigan. It includes the enclave cities Hamtramck and Highland Park, as well as Allen Park, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Ecorse, Inkster, Melvindale, the Grosse Pointe communities, Lincoln Park, Redford, River Rouge, and Taylor north of Goddard Road and east of Holland Road. History Area code 313 was assigned as one of the original 86 area codes in 1947. It originally served the entire southeastern quadrant of Michigan, including Metro Detroit, Flint, and the southern part of Michigan's "Thumb". Because of the demand for new telephone service in Detroit's suburbs and neighboring areas, the northern portion, including Detroit's northern suburbs, Flint and the southern Thumb were split off with new area code 810 on December 1, 1993. On December 13, 1997, the remaining 313 area was reduced to its current size when the western portion, ...

Area Code 305
Area codes 305 and 786 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for all of Miami, Florida, Miami-Dade County, and the part of Monroe County in the Florida Keys in the United States. The mainland portion of Monroe County is served by area code 239. History Area code 305 was one of the original North American area codes created in 1947 when it was intended to serve the entire state of Florida. The western part of the peninsula from the Tampa Bay area south, which was serviced mostly by GTE (now part of Frontier Communications), was separated with area code 813 in 1953. As a result of the increase in the state's population, North Florida from the Panhandle to Jacksonville was assigned area code 904 with a permissive dialing period beginning July 6, 1965, and a mandatory dialing period beginning January 1, 1966. In 1988, the east coast of Florida from Palm Beach County north through Brevard County, as well as the Orlando metropolitan area, was assi ...

Area Code 716
Area code 716 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and four surrounding counties in western New York. It was one of the original North American area codes established in 1947. History When the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) devised the first nationwide telephone numbering plan in the 1940s, New York state was initially divided into five numbering plan areas (NPAs), the most of any state. Each area received a distinct area code. Area code 716, one of these original area codes of October 1947, was assigned to a significant portion of central New York, as far east as Corning. In 1954, the numbering plan area was reduced in size by merging its eastern portion with the southern portion of NPA 315, to create area code 607. In 2001, the new area code 585 was created for Rochester and its suburbs. Until 1993, it was bounded at the Niagara River by area code 416 (now 905) in Ontario. Prior to October 202 ...

Area Code 506
Area is the quantity that expresses the extent of a region on the plane or on a curved surface. The area of a plane region or ''plane area'' refers to the area of a shape or planar lamina, while ''surface area'' refers to the area of an open surface or the boundary of a three-dimensional object. Area can be understood as the amount of material with a given thickness that would be necessary to fashion a model of the shape, or the amount of paint necessary to cover the surface with a single coat. It is the two-dimensional analogue of the length of a curve (a one-dimensional concept) or the volume of a solid (a three-dimensional concept). The area of a shape can be measured by comparing the shape to squares of a fixed size. In the International System of Units (SI), the standard unit of area is the square metre (written as m2), which is the area of a square whose sides are one metre long. A shape with an area of three square metres would have the same area as three such squares. ...

Area Codes 519, 226, And 548
Area codes 519, 226 and 548 are the telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for most of southwestern Ontario. Area code 519 was created in 1953 by a split of two numbering plan areas (NPAs), from the western portion of 416 and the southwestern portion of 613. In 1957, parts of 519 and 613 formed area code 705. 519 is mostly bounded by area code 905, except for Simcoe County which is bordered by 705. It was overlaid with the new area code 226 on October 21, 2006, at which time ten-digit dialling became mandatory. The third area code, 548, was added on June 4, 2015. Area code 382 has been reserved as a fourth code for the region. The primary ILEC ( Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier) in 519/226/548 is Bell Canada, with numerous other small independent companies that covered vast tracts of rural Ontario. Since competition for service was mandated in 1997, numerous CLECs (Competitive Local Exchange Carrier) have also started serving the region. History The ...
