Sculpture is the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions. Sculpture is the three-dimensional art work which is physically presented in the dimensions of height, width and depth. It is one of the plastic arts. Durable sculptural processes originally used carving (the removal of material) and modelling (the addition of material, as clay), in stone, metal, ceramic art, ceramics, wood and other materials but, since Modernism, there has been an almost complete freedom of materials and process. Vivien Ap Rhys Pryce
Vivien Mary ap Rhys Pryce (born 1 November 1937) is a British sculptor. ap Rhys Pryce has created large public works, including fountains, and also designed medals and trophies. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. Biography ap Rhys Pryce was born at Woking in Surrey and from 1955 to 1957 studied at the City and Guilds of London Art School and then at the Edinburgh College of Art under Eric Schilsky. In 1957 she won a travelling scholarship, further awards followed in 1961 and in 1964 she was awarded the Feodora Gleichen Award by the Royal Society of British Sculptors. ap Rhys Pryce became an Associate member of the Society in 1965 and was elected a Fellow in 1972. Ethelwyn Baker
Ethelwyn Mary Baker (1899–1988) was a British artist, known as a sculptor, painter and commercial artist. Biography Baker was born in Belfast and her parents were Hannah and Alfred Rawlings Baker, an artist. She studied art in London, first at the Slade School of Fine Art and then at the Royal Academy Schools from 1924 to 1929. Baker worked as an assistant to the sculptor Charles Sargeant Jagger during the 1920s and 1930s. During the 1930s Baker established a studio in St John's Wood in London which she used until the late 1950s when she moved to Portman Close, by Portman Square. Throughout her career, Baker produced sculptures and statuettes in stone, wood and clay and also painted watercolours. She designed and sculpted figures for Royal Worcester which were produced in porcelain. Baker also designed shop mannequins for department stores. Frances Bagley
Frances Bagley (born April 7, 1946) is an American sculptor who was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Her sculptures are made from many different materials including metal, stone, human hair and fabric. Recently she has also included video into her art. She lives and works in Dallas,Texas. Education Bagley initially went to the University of Tennessee with a scholarship for journalism. However, after taking an art course there, she says that she was "hooked" on art. Bagley received a BFA in painting from Arizona State University ( Tempe, Arizona) in 1969. Bagley realized that her paintings were really two-dimensional ideas about objects she wished to build. In 1971, she received an MA from Arizona State University and in 1980 an MFA in sculpture from the University of North Texas ( Denton, Texas). Inge Bagge
Inga Bagge (24 July 1916 – 3 May 1988) was a Swedish sculptor and painter. Her art education started in the mid-1930s under Leoo Verde at the ABF school in Linköping and in the early 1950s included the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. Consisting of a variety of unconventional materials, her early works attracted attention and acclaim at her 1958 début exhibition at the Burén Gallery in Stockholm. She went on to create even more surprising works, many of which can be seen in public places as well as in a number of museums. One of her most significant, the huge two-dimensional ''Livsträdet'' (Tree of Life, 1975), can be seen in Stockholm's Moderna Museet. Bagge also taught at Konstskolan Idun Lovén. Alice Aycock
Alice Aycock (born November 20, 1946) is an American sculptor and installation artist. She was an early artist in the land art movement in the 1970s, and has created many large-scale metal sculptures around the world. Aycock's drawings and sculptures of architectural and mechanical fantasies combine logic, imagination, magical thinking and science. Biography Aycock was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on November 20, 1946. She studied at Douglass College in New Brunswick, New Jersey, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968. She subsequently moved to New York City and obtained her Master of Arts in 1971 from Hunter College, where she was taught and supervised by sculptor and conceptual artist Robert Morris. Manon Awst
Manon Awst is a Welsh artist who makes sculptures, installations and performances exploring themes of place, identity and landscape. Awst grew up in Anglesey, and studied Architecture at the University of Cambridge. She lived in Berlin and collaborated with German artist Benjamin Walther between 2007-2017. Besides her art career, Awst also writes poetry. Biography Growing up on Anglesey in North Wales, speaking Welsh as her first language, Awst attended Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern and went on to study Architecture at Cambridge University. Benita Armstrong
Benita Eleanora Armstrong, nee Benita Jaeger later The Lady Strauss, (1907–2004) was British sculptor known for her bronze figurative work. Biography Armstrong was born into a Jewish family in Germany and moved to London in 1926. In London she lived in a flat above a restaurant in Charlotte Street and for several years was in a relationship with Clive Bell. After that relationship ended she met and, in 1932, married the British artist John Armstrong (artist), John Armstrong. Benita Armstrong studied under the Viennese sculptor Georg Ehrlich and was a frequent participant in group exhibitions in London and elsewhere as well as regularly having work included in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions. A solo exhibition of her work was held at the Drian Galleries in London in 1981. Evelin Winifred Aston
Evelin Winifred Aston, later Evelin Leigh (22 January 1891 – 1975) was a British artist known for her sculptures who also painted and worked in a variety of techniques. Biography Aston was born in Birmingham in England, one of the four children of a local housebuilder and his wife. After a private education Aston studied arts and crafts at the Birmingham School of Art where her teachers included Bernard Fleetwood-Walker and William Bloyne. During the 1920s, Aston taught modelling at a school for blind children in Birmingham while continuing to practise her art. She exhibited works at the Paris Salon, with the Royal Scottish Academy in 1934, with the Society of Women Artists throughout the 1930s and also with the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.
