This is a list of beaches in Singapore. Although Singapore is a nation composed of islands, the physical state and extent of its beaches today pales in comparison to their proliferation and quality two centuries ago. Rapid urbanisation and land use pressures necessitated the disappearance of most of these natural beaches as a result of land reclamation. Today, most of the beaches still in existence are man-made, formed at the edges of newly reclaimed land, the longest being the one along the East Coast Park. There is currently (June 2009) plans for a further man-made beach in dedication to Jorge Toomer, Ian Curnow and Ben Smith, due to their efforts in sea turtle cultivation. West Coast Park
West Coast Park is a park located at the south-westernmost corner of Queenstown, Singapore, Queenstown in Singapore. It runs parallel to West Coast Highway, Singapore, West Coast Highway. The park covers an area of roughly 50 hectares. Description Covering an area of , West Coast Park is bounded by West Coast Highway, Singapore, West Coast Highway to the north, and by Harbour Drive and the Straits of Singapore to the south, and is divided into two parts by West Coast Ferry Road. Sentosa
Sentosa Island, known mononymously as Sentosa, and formerly ''Pulau Belakang Mati'', is an island located off the southern coast of Singapore's main island. The island is separated from the main island of Singapore by a channel of water, the Keppel Harbour, and is adjacent to Pulau Brani, a smaller island wedged between Sentosa and the main island. Formerly used as a British military base and afterwards as a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp, the island was renamed Sentosa and was planned to be a popular tourist destination. Punggol Point
Punggol Point Park, formerly known as Punggol Point, is located in Punggol, north-east of Singapore. History Punggol Beach was one of the sites where Chinese civilians were killed during the Sook Ching Massacre. The location has now been declared as a national heritage site. There is a plaque commemorating the Sook Ching Massacre. The inscription on the plaque reads: The remains of some victims from the Sook Ching massacre would later be discovered by beach goers and fishermen. In 13 March 1977, a human skull and some bones was brought to light when a man dug a hole in the sand around the area. In December 1997, a man digging for earthworms as bait found a skull with two gold teeth as well as parts of an arm and a leg near the shore. Changi Beach Park
Changi Beach Park (Chinese: 樟宜海滨公园, Malay: Taman Pantai Changi, Tamil: சாங்கி கடலோர பூங்கா ) is a beach park located at the northern tip of Changi in the eastern region of Singapore. The 28-hectare beach park is one of the oldest coastal parks in Singapore, retaining the "kampung" or village atmosphere of the 1960s and '70s. Pasir Ris Park
Pasir Ris Park ( Chinese: 白沙公园; ms, Taman Pasir Ris) is a beach park located in the eastern part of Singapore. It covers an area of , and was partially built on reclaimed land. Initially planned in the late 1970s to serve people living in the vicinity, the park was designed with the help of two Japanese landscape specialists. Construction began on the park in September 1984, and the park was opened in phases from August 1986 to 1991. The park was further expanded in 2007, with the addition of new areas such as a herb garden. The park contains campsites, cycling paths, various gardens and barbeque pits. Sembawang Park
Sembawang Park (Chinese: 三巴旺公园; ms, Taman Sembawang) is a 15-hectare park situated in Sembawang, in the north of Singapore facing the Straits of Johor overlooking Malaysia. It is located at the end of Sembawang Road, where the former Sembawang Road End Bus Terminal was. History Sembawang Park got its name from the Sembawang Tree ( Malay for '' Mesua Ferruginea''). East Coast Park
East Coast Park is a beach and a park encompassing Marine Parade, Bedok and Tampines, along the southeastern coast of Singapore. It was opened in the 1970s, after the Singapore government had completed reclaiming land off the coast at Katong which extends from Changi to Kallang. It serves these and other seaside communities. The East Coast Park is the largest park in Singapore, and is built entirely on reclaimed land with a man-made beach, where swimming is possible. The beach is protected by breakwaters.
