ICTP Prize
The International Centre for Theoretical Physics Prize, ICTP Prize, worth 3000 Euros is awarded to a young (under 40) physicist or mathematician from a developing country to promote theoretical mathematics and physics research in the developing world. Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie Vir Wetenskap En Kuns
The Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns (SAAWK) (literally ''South African Academy for Science and Arts'') is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to promoting science, technology and the arts in Afrikaans, as well as promoting the use and quality of Afrikaans. The Hertzog Prize is awarded annually by the academy for high-quality literary work, while the Havenga prize is awarded annually for original research in the sciences. Origin The initiative for the founding of the SAAWK came from General J. B. M. Hertzog who championed the Dutch-Afrikaans language. He suggested ''"dat een lichaam in 't leven worde geroepen ter bevordering van de Hollandse taal en letteren in Zuid-Afrika"'' (that one organisation be established to promote the Dutch language and literature in South Africa). Havenga Prize
The Havenga Prize (''Havengaprys'' in Afrikaans) is a prize awarded annually by the ''Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns'' (South African Academy for Science and Arts) to a candidate for original research in the Sciences since 1945. Candidates are judged on the quality of research publications and evidence of the promotion of Afrikaans. The Havenga prize can only be awarded to a person once, but can be awarded posthumously. The prize is named after Finance Minister Nicolaas Christiaan Havenga, who donated £50 annually to the academy for the prize from 1946. A bequest of R4 000 was received from Havenga's estate and R14 000 from the estate of his wife, Olive. Since 1979 the prize has been awarded in the form of a gold medal. Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) is a liquefied natural gas (LNG)-producing company and a liquefied natural gas plant on Bonny Island, Nigeria. History Nigeria LNG Limited was incorporated as a limited liability company on 17 May 1989, to produce LNG and natural gas liquids (NGL) for export. The plant was built by TSKJ consortium, which was led by former Halliburton's subsidiary KBR. Other participants of the consortium were Snamprogetti, Technip and JGC Corporation. The first train came into operation in 1999. In September 1999, the Bonny plant started production and was expected to send its first shipment in October. It started with sales contracts with Enel for 3.5 billion bcm/y, Enagás for 1.6 bcm/y, BOTAŞ for 1.2 bcm/y, and Gaz de France for 500 million cu m/year. Dan David Prize
The Dan David Prize is a major international award that recognizes and supports outstanding contributions to the study of history and other disciplines that shed light on the human past. It awards nine prizes of $300,000 each year to outstanding early- and mid-career scholars and practitioners in the historical disciplines. The Prize has an annual purse of $3 million, making it the largest history award in the world, with the remaining $300,000 funding an international postdoctoral fellowship program at Tel Aviv University, where the Prize is headquartered. The Prize is endowed by the Dan David Foundation. Baillie Gifford is an investment management firm which is wholly owned by partners, all of whom work within the firm. It was founded in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1908 and still has its headquarters in the city. It has corporate offices in New York and London. Panmure House (Edinburgh)
Panmure House is a 17th-century townhouse located in Edinburgh's Canongate. It is the only surviving residence of renowned Scottish philosopher Adam Smith, who lived there between 1778 and 1790. Situated close to the Scottish Parliament, in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the House is an important monument of Scottish intellectual history. During his time living at Panmure House, Smith continued to study and write, producing four new editions of his magnum opus ''The Wealth of Nations'' between 1778 and 1789. He was still at work on the final edition of his 1759 master work, ''The Theory of Moral Sentiments'', when he died at Panmure House in 1790. International Colloquium On Structural Information And Communication Complexity
The International Colloquium on Structural Information and Communication Complexity (SIROCCO) is an annual academic conference with refereed presentations, in the field of Distributed Computing with a special focus on the interplay between structural knowledge and communication complexity in distributed/decentralized systems. The Colloquium was started in 1994 with the idea of promoting new and unconventional ideas in distributed computing and the one of the aims of the organizers is to provide a venue for informal discussions in a relaxed environment. The Prize for Innovation in Distributed Computing (also called SIROCCO award) is an award presented annually at the conference International Colloquium on Structural Information and Communication Complexity (SIROCCO) to a living individual (or individuals) who have made a major contribution to understanding "the relationships between information and efficiency in decentralized computing", which is main area of interest for this conference. The award recognizes innovation, in particular, it recognizes inventors of new ideas that were unorthodox and outside the mainstream at the time of their introduction. There are two restrictions for being eligible for this award: (1) The original contribution must have appeared in a publication at least five years before the year of the award, (2) One of the articles related to this contribution and authored by this candidate must have appeared in the proceedings of SIROCCO.
