ICTP Prize
The International Centre for Theoretical Physics Prize, ICTP Prize, worth 3000 Euros is awarded to a young (under 40) physicist or mathematician from a developing country to promote theoretical mathematics and physics research in the developing world. Awardees include notable scientists from India, China, Brazil, Argentina and many other countries. International Centre For Theoretical Physics
The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) is an international research institute for physical and mathematical sciences that operates under a tripartite agreement between the Italian Government, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It is located near the Miramare Park, about 10 kilometres from the city of Trieste, Italy. The centre was founded in 1964 by Pakistani Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam. ICTP is part of the Trieste System, a network of national and international scientific institutes in Trieste, promoted by the Italian physicist Paolo Budinich. Noor Muhammad Butt
Noor Muhammad Butt (Urdu: نور محمد بٹ); b. 3 June 1936), , also known as "N. M. Butt", is a Pakistani nuclear physicist and professor of physics at the Preston University who is known for his research publications in understanding the gamma-rays burst, Mössbauer effect, diffraction, later the nanotechnology. Besides teaching courses in topics involving the modern physics, his career has spent working in branches of physics at the national laboratory in Nilore and has authored several college textbooks in physics based on his research, and presently serving as the chairman of the Institute of Nano Science and Technology at the Preston University. Fernando Quevedo
Fernando Quevedo Rodríguez (born 12 May 1956) is a Guatemalan physicist. He was the director of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) between October 2009 and November 2019. Quevedo was born in 1956 in San José, Costa Rica and obtained his early education in Guatemala. He obtained his BSc in physics from the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala in 1979, and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986 under the supervision of Nobel laurate Steven Weinberg. Following a string of research appointments at CERN, Switzerland, McGill University in Canada, Institut de Physique in Neuchatel, Switzerland, and the Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA, as well as a brief term as professor of physics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Anamaría Font is a Venezuelan theoretical physicist, with most of her work focusing on string theory. Early life and education She was born in Anaco, Venezuela. She obtained her Bachelor degree in physics, Cum Laude in 1980 from Simon Bolivar University, in Caracas, Venezuela. Her research has been focused on models about the primordial components of matter in the context of string theory. Academic career Font received a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987, under the supervision of Austin Gleeson. Her PhD thesis was Four-Dimensional Supergravity Theories Arising from Superstrings. While pursuing her PhD, she received classes from Nobel Prize physicist Steven Weinberg. Abhishek Dhar
Abhishek Dhar (born 31 August 1970) is an Indian physicist specialising in statistical physics and condensed matter physics. He is a Professor in the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, Bangalore. Education and Career Dhar obtained his PhD in 1998 from the Department of Theoretical Physics at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. His doctoral advisor was Deepak Dhar. He did post-doctoral research at Indian Institute of Science, Raman Research Institute and University of California, Santa Cruz. Dhar then became a faculty member of the Raman Research Institute and later joined the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences. Shiraz Minwalla
Shiraz Naval Minwalla (born January 2, 1972) is an Indian theoretical physicist and string theorist. He is a faculty member in the Department of Theoretical Physics at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. Prior to his present position, Minwalla was a Harvard Junior Fellow and subsequently an assistant professor at Harvard University.
