The University of North Texas (UNT) is a public research university in Denton, Texas. It was founded as a nonsectarian, coeducational, private teachers college in 1890 and was formally adopted by the state 11 years later."Denton Normal School," Dallas Morning News, May 25, 1901, p. 2. UNT is a member of the University of North Texas System, which includes additional universities in Dallas and Fort Worth. UNT also has a location in Frisco. Hurles Scales Jr. is a former American professional football defensive back in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted in the 14th round (355th overall) of the 1973 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, but he did not see action on the field. He split the 1974 NFL season between the St. Louis Cardinals (seven games played) and the Chicago Bears (one game played). Ray Renfro
Austin Raymond Renfro (November 7, 1929 – August 4, 1997) was an American professional gridiron football player. Renfro attended the University of North Texas and played in 12 NFL seasons from 1952–1963 for the Cleveland Browns. He is the father of former Houston Oilers and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Mike Renfro. Ray died at the age of 67 and was interred at the Greenwood Memorial Park cemetery along with Lon Evans. He also served as an NFL assistant coach in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1965, he coached running backs for the Detroit Lions. Johnny Quinn
Johnny Quinn (born November 6, 1983) is an American bobsledder and former gridiron football player. He is a member of the U.S. National Bobsled Team and competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics. Quinn is a former wide receiver for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was signed by the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL) as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He was also a member of the NFL's Green Bay Packers in 2008. Quinn was a two-sport athlete at the University of North Texas, where he lettered in football and track and graduated with a degree in criminal justice. Willie Parker (offensive Lineman)
William Nolen Parker (born December 28, 1948) is a former American football center who played for eleven seasons in the National Football League for the San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions. North Texas University Parker played college football at North Texas University. While playing at North Texas, Will made All Missouri Valley Conference in 1969 and 1970. In 2013 Will was voted as the Center for the North Texas All Century Team (1913-2013). In 2016 the North Texas Hall of Fame committee voted Will into the North Texas Hall of Fame. Carlos Ortiz Becerra (born 24 April 1991) is a Mexican professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour and Web.com Tour. He won the 2020 Vivint Houston Open on the PGA Tour. He now plays in the LIV Golf League. Early life Ortiz was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He played college golf in the United States at the University of North Texas. Zach Orr
Zachary Orr (born June 9, 1992) is an American football coach and former linebacker who is the inside linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as an assistant coach for the Baltimore Ravens from 2017 to 2020 and outside linebackers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021. Jamize Robert Olawale (born April 17, 1989) is an American football fullback who is a free agent. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He played college football at North Texas. Tony LaShae Mitchell Jr. (born April 7, 1992) is an American professional basketball player for Cocodrilos de Caracas of the Superliga Profesional de Baloncesto (SPB) in Venezuela. He competed in college for North Texas. Mitchell is , weighs 235 pounds and plays the forward position. Mitchell was selected in the 2013 NBA draft in the second round (37th overall). High school career Mitchell played three years of prep basketball. For his career, he posted over 1,500 points and 700 rebounds. As a senior at L. G. Pinkston High School he averaged 20.5 points, 13.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 4.1 blocks per game while leading his school to a 26–10 record and a berth in the Class 4A Region II Tournament. Billy Maxwell
Billy Joe Maxwell (July 23, 1929 – September 20, 2021) was an American professional golfer. Maxwell was born in Abilene, Texas. He played college golf at North Texas State College and helped them win four consecutive NCAA Division I team championships (1949–1952). Maxwell also won the U.S. Amateur title in 1951. After an impressive amateur career, he served in the Army and turned pro in 1954. Maxwell won seven times on the PGA Tour. He also played on the 1963 Ryder Cup team and was elected to the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. He has a twin brother, Bobby, who was also a golfer. He resided in Jacksonville, Florida where, along with former PGA touring pro, Chris Blocker, he owned and operated Hyde Park Golf Club, a Donald Ross designed course.
