Miss World titleholders † = deceased Notes: * Marjorie Wallace, the 1973 winner, became the first titleholder not to complete her reign, when in March 1974, she was fired for "failing to fulfill the basic requirements of the job". Miss World
Miss World is the oldest existing international beauty pageant. It was created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951. Since his death in 2000, Morley's widow, Julia Morley, has co-chaired the pageant. Along with Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth, it is one of the Big Four international beauty pageants. The current Miss World is Karolina Bielawska of Poland, who was crowned by Toni-Ann Singh of Jamaica on March 16, 2022, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Petra Schürmann
Petra Schürmann-Freund (; 15 September 1933 – 14 January 2010) was a German actress, model, TV announcer and beauty queen who won Miss World 1956. Biography Schürmann won the 1956 Miss World contest, representing West Germany. she is the only German to win this title, with the exception of Gabriella Brum who won the title in 1980 but resigned one day later. The pageant was held in London, United Kingdom. Schürmann finished only third in the Miss Germany pageant, but was chosen to represent her country in London because of her better knowledge of English. At that time Schürmann was studying philosophy and history of the arts at the universities of Bonn and Cologne. After winning her Miss World title, she continued her studies in Munich. Miss Nederland is a national Beauty pageant in the Netherlands. The pageant was founded in 1929, where the winners were sent to Miss Universe. History Former pageant From 1929 to 1931, the Netherlands held a national pageant in Amsterdam for the first time called "Miss Holland". From 1932 to 1949 the pageant was briefly discontinued and later recommenced in 1951 by the Miss Holland Organization. Miss South Africa is a national beauty pageant in South Africa that selects South African representatives to compete in two of the Big Four international beauty pageants, Miss World and Miss Universe, and also selects another representative to participate in minor international pageant Miss Supranational. Miss World 1958, the 8th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 13 October 1958 at the Lyceum Ballroom in London, United Kingdom. Penelope Anne Coelen of South Africa was crowned by Marita Lindahl of Finland at the end of the pageant. She became the second woman from Africa to win the title after Egypt in 1954. Miss Suomi ( Finnish for ''Miss Finland'') is a national beauty pageant in Finland. The pageant was founded in 1931, where the winners were sent to Miss Universe. History Miss Suomi was held for the first time in 1931. Between 1952 and 1955 the winner of Suomen Neito went to Miss Universe, where Armi Kuusela was also crowned as the first Miss Universe in Long Beach by actress Piper Laurie in 1952.
