Gujarati cinema, also known as Gollywood or Dhollywood, is the Gujarati language film industry. It is one of the major regional and vernacular film industries of the cinema of India, having produced more than one thousand films since its inception. During the silent film era, many individuals in the industry were Gujarati people, Gujaratis. The language-associated industry dates back to 1932, when the first Gujarati talkie, ''Narsinh Mehta (1932 film), Narsinh Mehta'', was released. Until the independence of India in 1947, only twelve Gujarati films were produced. There was a spurt in film production in the 1940s focused on saint, sati or dacoit stories as well as Hindu mythological film, mythology and folktales. In the 1950s–1960s, the trend continued with the addition of films on literary works. Monal Gajjar (born 13 May) is an Indian actress and model who mainly appears in Telugu and Gujarati films. She debuted with 2012 Telugu film '' Sudigadu''. She has also acted in Satish Kaushik directed Hindi film ''Kaagaz'' in 2021 which is a satire on governmental system in Bharat. Life and career Gajjar was born on 13 May in a Gujarati family and hails from Ahmedabad in Gujarat. While graduating in commerce, she started working in ING Vysya Bank. At the suggestion of her yoga teacher, Gajjar participated at the Mirchi Queen Bee beauty pageant contest organised by Radio Mirchi in 2011, which she went on to win.
