Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. The sport can be played by anyone who can hold a racket, including wheelchair users. The modern game of tennis originated in Birmingham, England, in the late 19th century as lawn tennis. Mika Hedman
Mika Hedman (born 14 June 1965) is a Finnish former professional tennis player. Career The son of Davis Cup player Heikki Hedman competed on the professional tour in the 1980s. He himself represented the Finland Davis Cup team on one occasion, against Cyprus in 1987. In front of a home crowd in Helsinki, he partnered with Olli Rahnasto in the doubles rubber to defeat their Cypriot opponents in straight sets. Hedman had a career high singles ranking of 415 and reached the final qualifying round at the 1984 Australian Open. In doubles he was ranked as high as 189 in the world, with two Grand Prix main draw appearance in 1986, at Hilversum and Kitzbühel. Henri Joona Julius Laaksonen (, Swiss Standard German: ; born 31 March 1992) is a Swiss professional tennis player. His highest singles ranking is world No. 84, which he achieved on 14 February 2022, and his highest doubles ranking is world No. 191, achieved on 24 December 2018. Early life Laaksonen's father, Sandro Della Piana, is a former Swiss tennis player. His mother is from Finland. His parents separated very early in his life, but he nonetheless kept contact with his father. He started playing tennis at the age of 3. During his adolescent years he lived in Hyvinkää where he was coached by Pasi Virtanen. At 16, he became European champion for the Under-16s category. Micke Kontinen (born 18 December 1992) is a retired Finnish tennis player. He is the younger brother of Henri Kontinen who is also a tennis player. Kontinen has a career high ATP singles ranking of 355 achieved on 15 September 2014. He also has a career high ATP doubles ranking of 489 achieved on 26 May 2014.
