Deobandi ( ur, دیو بندی, russian: Деобанди, bn, দেওবন্দ, hi, देवबन्दी) is a term used for a revivalist movement in Islam. It is centered primarily in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and has recently spread to the United Kingdom and has a presence in South Africa. The name derives from Deoband, India, where the school, Darul Uloom Deoband, is situated. The movement was inspired by the spirit of scholar Shah Waliullah (1703–1762), while the foundation of Darul Uloom Deoband was laid on 30 May 1866. Darul Ulum was the epicenter of the protest against the occupation of British East India company and the British Raj. There are many Deobandi universities in a variety of countries. Deobandi
Deobandi is a revivalist movement within Sunni Islam, adhering to the Hanafi school of law, formed in the late 19th century around the Darul Uloom Madrassa in Deoband, India, from which the name derives, by Muhammad Qasim Nanautavi, Rashid Ahmad Gangohi, and several others, after the Indian Rebellion of 1857–58. The movement pioneered education in religious sciences through the ''Dars-i-Nizami'' associated with the Lucknow-based ''ulema'' of Firangi Mahal with the goal of preserving traditional Islamic teachings from the influx of modernist, secular ideas during British colonial rule. The Deobandi movement's Indian clerical wing, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, was founded in 1919 and played a major role in the Indian independence movement through its participation in the Pan-Islamist ''Khalifat'' movement and propagation of the doctrine of composite nationalism. Al-Jāmiʿah al-Qurʼāniyyah al-ʿArabiyyah Lālbāgh ( ar, الجامعة القرآنية العربية لالباغ), better known simply as Lalbagh Madrasah ( bn, লালবাগ মাদ্রাসা), is a Qawmi madrasa providing higher Islamic studies in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It has seven education sections from kindergarten to post-graduate levels. History This institute was founded by a group of Islamic scholars led by Zafar Ahmad Usmani, Shamsul Haque Faridpuri, Deen Muhammad Khan and Hafezzi Huzur. They planned for the establishment of this seminary around the historic Lalbagh Fort in Shawwal 1370 H (1950 CE). Hafezzi Huzur was the first person who started the class of memorizing the Quran (hifz) amid a lot of difficulties and problems. Brahmanbaria ( bn, ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া, Brāhmaṇabāṛiẏā) is a city of Bangladesh and the capital of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila as well as Brahmanbaria District. It is the second largest city after Cumilla in eastern Bangladesh and one of the oldest municipalities in Bangladesh, established in 1868. Brahmanbaria was declared a district headquarters in 1984. Al-Jāmiʿah al-Islāmiyyah al-Yūnusiyyah ( ar, الجامعة الإسلامية اليونسية), also known as ''Jamia Islamia Yunusia'' ( bn, জামেয়া ইসলামিয়া ইউনুছিয়া), is one of the Qawmi Jamiahs of Bangladesh located in the neighbourhood of Paikpara in Brahmanbaria. As of 1998, it controlled most of the other madrasahs in Brahmanbaria. History It was established by Abu Taher Muhammad Yunus, after whom the Madrasah is named, in 1914 and teacher was Motiur Rahman. Sylhet ( bn, সিলেট), located in north-east Bangladesh, is the divisional capital and one of the four districts in the Sylhet Division. History Sylhet district was established on 3 January 1782, and until 1878 it was part of Bengal Province under Dhaka Division. Patiya ( bn, পটিয়া) is an upazila of Chattogram District in Chattogram Division, Bangladesh. History During the British rule, a police station(thana) was established in Patiya in 1845. It was upgraded to an ''upazila'' in 1984. The region saw revolutionary activities in the 1930s, when revolutionaries from Jugantar and the fugitives of the Chittagong armoury raid fought with British police.
