Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. Sonja Pachta (born 25 April 1941) is an Austrian former tennis player. Pachta, a 19-time national singles champion, was active on tour from the 1950s through to the 1970s. From 1963 to 1975, she competed for the Austria Federation Cup team, featuring in 16 rubbers. Karin Oberleitner (born 14 March 1968) is an Austrian former professional tennis player. Oberleitner represented Austria in a 1985 Federation Cup tie against the USSR in Nagoya, where she featured in a dead rubber doubles match with Barbara Pollet, losing to Svetlana Cherneva and Larisa Savchenko. She competed on the international circuit through the late 1980s and reached a career best singles ranking of 290 in the world. Her husband is former ATP Tour player Alex Antonitsch and their daughter Mira has played Fed Cup for Austria. The couple also have a son Sam who is a professional ice hockey player. Yvonne Meusburger Garamszegi (née Meusburger, born 3 October 1983) is an Austrian retired tennis player. Meusburger won one singles title on the WTA Tour, as well as fifteen singles and nine doubles titles on the ITF Circuit in her career. On 31 March 2014, she reached her highest singles ranking of world No. 37. On 30 August 2010, she peaked at No. 104 in the doubles rankings. Marion Maruska (born 15 December 1972) is an Austrian former tennis player. She turned professional in 1992 and reached her career-high singles ranking on October 6, 1997, when she became the No. 50 of the world. 1997 was Maruska's best year on the WTA Tour, highlighted by her first (and only) WTA title and another tour final amid a wave of inconsistent results. Karin Kschwendt (born 14 September 1968) is a former professional tennis player who represented Luxembourg, Germany and Austria at various points in her career. Sandra Klemenschits (born 13 November 1982) is an Austrian former professional tennis player. She won one doubles title on the WTA Tour (with Andreja Klepač) and 40 doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. Klemenschits announced that the 2016 Generali Ladies Linz would be her last tournament before her retirement from professional tennis. Early life Daniela and twin sister Sandra (fellow pro-player) were born in Vienna, Austria. Tennis career Daniela played doubles with sister Sandra on the WTA Tour and the ITF Women's Circuit.
