Kurt Neumann (director)
Kurt Neumann (5 April 1908 – 21 August 1958) was a German Hollywood film director who specialized in science fiction movies in his later career. Biography Born in Nuremberg, the son of a manufacturer of tin stamps studied music in several German cities, including Berlin. In 1926 he directed his first short movie. Neumann came to the U.S. in the early talkie era, hired to direct German language versions of Hollywood films. Once he mastered English and established himself as technically proficient in filmmaking, Neumann directed such low-budget programmers as ''The Big Cage'' (1932), ''Secret of the Blue Room'' (1933) with Paul Lukas and Gloria Stuart, ''Hold 'Em Navy'' (1936), '' It Happened in New Orleans'' (1936) with child star Bobby Breen, ''Wide Open Faces'' (1937) with Joe E. Mary Kornman (born Mary Agnes Evans, December 27, 1915 – June 1, 1973) was an American child actress who was the leading female star of the ''Our Gang'' series during the Pathé silent era. ''Our Gang'' She was born as Mary Agnes Evans, the daughter of Verna Comer, who appeared in several films, and David Lionel Evans. Her stepfather, Hal Roach′s still-photo cameraman Eugene Kornman adopted Mary after he and Mary's mother were married in 1921. Gertrude Dolores Messinger (April 28, 1911 – November 8, 1995) was an American film actress known for her B-movie roles from the 1930s through the 1950s. She began as a child actor in silent films, but found her greatest fame in talkies of the 1930s. During her career she appeared in more than 50 motion pictures, with particular success in westerns. Biography Born in Spokane, Washington, she began acting early, playing child roles in silent films as early as 1917, when she had a role in the film ''Babes in the Woods''. Fellow child actor Buddy Messinger was her brother. Her name was sometimes spelled Gertrude Messenger and she was also known as Gertie Messinger. David Hardin Sharpe (February 2, 1910 – March 30, 1980) was an American actor and stunt performer, sometimes billed as ''Davy Sharpe''. Biography Sharpe won the US National Tumbling Championship in 1925 and 1926. He began his film career as a child actor in the 1920s. He was married for a short time to film actress Gertrude Messinger. Eventually he became the "Ramrod" (stunt coordinator) for Republic Pictures from 1939 until mid-1942 when the USA entered World War II. He was replaced in this role by Tom Steele while Sharpe joined the Army Air Corps in 1943. Death Sharpe died in 1980, aged 70, of Lou Gehrig's disease (some sources cited Parkinson's disease).
