Linga is a locality situated on the section of the Mallee Highway and Pinnaroo railway line between Ouyen and the South Australian border in the Sunraysia region. It is situated about 8 kilometres east from Boinka and 11 kilometres west from Underbool. Underbool, Victoria
Underbool is a town in the Mallee region of north-west Victoria, Australia. The town is in the Rural City of Mildura local government area and on the Mallee Highway—between Ouyen and the South Australian border – north west of the state capital, Melbourne. The town services the grain farmers and graziers in the area. For tourists it provides access to the Pink Lakes in Murray-Sunset National Park. The town name is thought to come from the German word ''underbolt'' given to it by surveyor Dr. Neumayer when he camped there in October 1861. Boinka is a locality situated on the section of the Mallee Highway and Pinnaroo railway line between Ouyen and the South Australian border in the Sunraysia region of Victoria, Australia. Boinka is situated approximately 4 kilometres east from Tutye and 8 kilometres west from Linga. The name Boinka means "flat black beetle" in the language of the indigenous people of Lake Hindmarsh. The location has a rich history of settlement and is the subject of a photograph collection within the archives of the Museum of Victoria. The Boinka State School (No 3800) is listed as a part of Heritage Victoria – owned by the Crown Reserve and managed by Rural City Council of Mildura. The township was established in the early 1910s, and the Post Office opened on 15 July 1912 when a regular mail service was provided by the opening of the railway from Ouyen to Murrayville a month earlier. Pinnaroo Railway Line, Victoria
The Pinnaroo Line serviced the agricultural districts of the Mallee in the Australian states of South Australia and Victoria for the freight of grain, although there were periods of passenger travel on the line in previous years (the last passenger service between Ouyen in Victoria and Pinnaroo in South Australia being in 1968). The railway line was the means to open up the agricultural lands with the supply of goods and services from rural centres sustaining the remote area. It was completed from Ouyen to Murrayville in 1912 and extended to Pinnaroo in 1915. Ouyen, Victoria
Ouyen is a town in Victoria, Australia, located in the Rural City of Mildura at the junction of the Calder Highway and Mallee Highway, south of Mildura, and northwest of Melbourne. At the 2016 census, the town had a population of 1,045. History The area was first occupied by the Wergaia Indigenous Australians. The name is believed to be derived from the Wergaia word "wuya-wuya", which some believe means "pink-eared duck", whilst others claim it means "ghost waterhole".
