Life And Lyrics
''Life and Lyrics'' is a 2006 British film directed by Richard Laxton and starring Ashley Walters, a former member of the garage band So Solid Crew. A variation on the ''Romeo and Juliet'' theme, it is set in modern-day South London. It tells the story of two rival crews of DJs and what happens when a member of one crew falls for a member of another. The Motion Crew are a group of south London rappers led by DJ Danny 'D-Biz' Lewis (Ashley Walters). For Danny, his music is everything and his crew are like family. But loyalties are put to the test when Danny falls for the beautiful Carmen, whom he soon finds out is related to a member of their most hated rivals, the violent and arrogant Hard Cash Crew. Both crews seem certain to face each other in the rap battle finals of the prestigious Mic Masters competition, a thrilling event that will offer a final chance for Danny to beat his rivals and make it big. Richard Laxton (born 5 July 1967 in London) is a British film director Career Richard Laxton started his career with the short film '' I Bet It Will Rain'' in 1992. Initially he mainly worked for TV production, and was nominated for British Academy Film Awards for several of his TV episodes. In 2006 he made his first feature film ''Life and Lyrics''. His next feature films were '' Grow Your Own'' in 2007, ''An Englishman in New York'' in 2009 and ''Effie Gray'' in 2012. His last production for TV were the twelve episodes of the series ''Him & Her'' in 2011. In 2013 he realised a biographical film entitled ''Effie Gray''. Ashley Walters (actor)
Ashley Walters (born 30 June 1982), also known by his stage name Asher D, is a British rapper, songwriter and actor. He played Ricky in ''Bullet Boy'' (2004), the lead role as Dushane Hill in ''Top Boy'', and Antwan in ''Get Rich or Die Tryin''' (2005). He has also appeared in British TV shows such as ''Grange Hill'', ''The Bill'', ''Holby City'', ''Doctor Who'', ''Silent Witness'' and the 2015 BBC police programme '' Cuffs''. Early life Walters was born in Peckham, south-east London, to Jamaican parents. He was raised by his mother, Pamela Case, a local government officer. So Solid Crew
So Solid Crew are a British UK garage and hip hop collective originating from the area on and surrounding the Winstanley and York Road Estates in Battersea, London which achieved wide success in the early 2000s. The group consisted of many members, the most notable being Asher D (Ashley Walters), Lisa Maffia, Harvey and Romeo. So Solid have been credited for being pioneers in the UK music scene. By turning UK garage from a dancey-genre to one that was darker and more MC-oriented, and gaining mainstream success, they inspired London youth to experiment with their own darker sounds, leading to what would become known as grime music.
