Library is an unincorporated community in South Park Township, Pennsylvania along Brownsville Road. Originally known as ''Loafer's Hollow'', it was renamed Library by its residents in honor of the first library in the area, founded by John Moore in 1833. South of Library, the original course of Brownsville Road continues as Pennsylvania Route 88. Library holds an annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony. South Park Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania
South Park Township is a township in the southern part of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States, near Pittsburgh. The population was 13,416 at the 2010 census. A large portion of the township consists of a county park of the same name. History Composed of portions of St. Clair and Jefferson townships in 1845, South Park was originally called Snowden Township, named after John M. Snowden, a prominent businessman, politician and former Pittsburgh mayor, who had died earlier that year. In the 1930s, Allegheny County acquired several large parcels of farm land mostly within Snowden Township and created a regional recreational area named South Park. Brownsville Road
Brownsville Road is a road between Pittsburgh, at Eighteenth Street and South Avenue in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania eastwards through Mount Oliver and generally highlands situated along or near the hilltops often overlooking (and sometimes taking shorter paths cutting across the loops of the meanders of) the Monongahela River. It has had several names over its history, and was also known at the ''Red Stone Road'' and the period it was a Plank Road managed as a toll road, ''the Brownsville Plank Road, or the Brownsville Turnpike, or locally, as the area grew into a city, Southern Avenue.'' Pennsylvania Route 88
Pennsylvania Route 88 (PA 88) is a north–south state highway located in southwestern Pennsylvania. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 119 (US 119) in Point Marion less than from the Pennsylvania-West Virginia border. The northern terminus is at PA 51 in Pittsburgh. PA 88 runs parallel to the Monongahela River for almost its entire length. Signed in 1927, PA 88 is one of the oldest state highways in Pennsylvania. Library is a station on Pittsburgh Regional Transit's light rail network, located in the Library neighborhood of South Park, Pennsylvania. It is the southern terminus of the Silver Line (formerly the Library branch of the Blue Line). A 430 space park and ride lot is located on the premises, drawing travelers from both South Park and Pittsburgh's suburbs in Washington County, located just to the south.
